    • A flaw detector for optically transmissive surfaces having a first light collector above the surface and a second light collector below the surface. A scanning light beam is directed into the first light collector through a beam entrance aperture and only light scattered from the surface is collected. Light specularly reflected from the surface exits the collector through the beam entrance aperture. Similarly, light passing through the surface enters the second collector, but the axial beam component is dumped through an opening in the second collector, while only diffracted light is collected. Preferably, two-stage light collectors are used with the first stage admitting the beam and generating a scattered or diffracted beam component, with the second stage admitting the scattered or diffracted beam component and integrating the component over a collection surface and sampling the integrated portion at a photoelectric detector. An electrical output signal from the detector may be displayed.

    • A lamp comprising socket mounting assembly which includes a retainer engaging the interior of said hollow portion of said housing. The retainer has an opening therein and a shock absorbing mount member extends through the opening. The member is made of resilient material and has spaced annular flanges extending along opposite sides of the retainer. One of the flanges has circumferentially spaced integral protuberances extending axially and engaging one surface of the retainer for holding the opposite surface of the retainer against the opposite flange. The shock mounting member has an axially extending opening therein. A socket retainer has a planar surface engaging the end of the shock mounting member. The socket retainer has portions thereof crimped into engagement with the periphery of the shock mounting member. A socket member has an end with a reduced diameter extending through the opening in the socket retainer and the end is crimped outwardly.

    • A break-away mounting for vehicle-mounted mirrors includes a mounting member for securing to the side exterior of a vehicle, with a portion projecting outwardly from the vehicle. A mirror support receives a mirror and has a pivot boss where the mirror support can be pivotally mounted to the portion of the mounting member. A follower guide is secured to either the portion or pivot boss and a follower is mounted in the guide. Cam surfaces are provided on the other of the portion and boss, and a resilient spring urges the follower against the cam surface. The cam surface defines firstly a detent or recess for receiving the cam follower when the mirror support is in its normal operating position, and further defines sloping cam surfaces to either side of the recess which are such that when the mirror support is deflected forwardly or rearwardly it automatically returns to its normal position.
