    • A start-up circuit in a switch-mode power converter that employs a Zener diode to provide a reference voltage to reduce the power consumption and the size of the start-up circuit. The start-up circuit also includes a coarse current source and a coarse reference voltage signal generator for producing current and reference voltage for initial startup operation of a bandgap circuit. The reference signal and current from coarse current source and the reference voltage signal generator are subject to large process, voltage and temperature (PVT) variations or susceptible to noise from the power supply, and hence, these signals are used temporarily during start-up and replaced with signals from higher performance components. After bandgap circuit becomes operational, the start-up receives voltage reference signal from the bandgap circuit to more accurately detect undervoltage lockout conditions.

    • A method and apparatus for ATM network planning is described. ATM network planning involves designing an ATM network to support traffic demands, which may include voice, data, image and video traffic. It is desirable to design a backbone network for a metropolitan area which minimizes the total network cost. The design process includes the determination of network topology, location and configuration of switches, dimensioning of all links, etc. A heuristic method is described which provides a near-optimal lowest cost network design with the cost reasonably certain to be close to the optimal solution. The advantage is a versatile method which can reliably produce a lowest cost network plan in a reasonable time.

    • Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, an apparatus, and a system for carrying out a multimedia service in a WLAN. The method includes: receiving a multicast data stream sent by a data server; and monitoring in real time a receiving rate of a terminal connected to an access point, if the receiving rate is higher than or equal to a multicast sending rate at which the access point sends multicast data, sending, in a multicast mode, the multicast data stream sent by the data server to the terminal, and if the receiving rate is lower than the multicast sending rate, converting the multicast data stream sent by the data server into a unicast data stream and sending the unicast data stream to the terminal. In the solution, the mode of sending multimedia data stream by the access point is determined according to the receiving rate of the terminal, which improves the transmission quality of the multimedia data stream and enhances the user experience.
