    • The present invention is directed to cross-linkable, hydroxyl group-containing polymer resins which are obtained by copolymerizing olefinically-unsaturated monomers and are suitable as binder components for lacquers, the polymer resins having a hydroxyl number of about 20 to 400, an average osmometrically-determined molecular weight of about 500 to 30,000 and a molecular inhomogeneity U of about 0.5 to 15, characterized in that they contain about 0.2 to 80% by weight, preferably about 10 to 70% by weight, based on the total weight of the copolymers, of incorporated monomers selected from olefinically- and acetylenically-unsaturated aliphatic diols having 4 carbon atoms, the ether group-containing alkoxylation products thereof with a hydroxyl number of about 50 to 900, the reaction products of these diols with .epsilon.-caprolactone in a mol ratio of diol:-caprolactone of about 1:0.2 to 1:10 and any mixtures of these components.The present invention is also directed to the use of the above polymer resins as binders for coating compositions.

    • A moisture-hardening binder composition for lacquer of coating compositions is prepared by mixing(A) 50 to 97 parts by weight of copolymers of maleic anhydride with olefinically unsaturated monomers, said copolymers containing succinic anhydride units and having molecular weights Mw of 1,500 to 75,000 with(B) 3 to 50 parts by weight oxazolanes having a molecular weight Mw of 87 to 10,000,the quantitative ratios of (A) to (B) being such that the composition contains 0.25 to 10 anhydride groups for every oxazolane group,wherein component (A) consists essentially of copolymers of(a) 4.5 to 45 parts by weight of maleic anhydride,(b) 5 to 80 parts by weight of monomers of the formulae ##STR1## or both, and (c) 15 to 92 parts by weight of monomers of the formula ##STR2## wherein, R.sub.1 and R.sub.4 is each, independent of the other, an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 hydrocarbon radical with or without oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen as a heteratom, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, chlorine or fluorine,R.sub.3 is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.15 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C.sub.5 -C.sub.10 cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C.sub.7 -C.sub.18 araliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a C.sub.6 -C.sub.12 aromatic hydrocarbon radical, chlorine, fluorine, nitrile or a C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 hydrocarbon radical containing one or more heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen in the form of ether, ester, amide, urethane, urea, thioester, oxirane, ketone, lactam or lactone groups.

    • Oxidatively cross-linkable, water dilutable binders suitable for lacquers, coating compositions and sealing compounds are modified co-polymers of olefinically unsaturated compounds, having a molecular weight of 6000 to 160,000 and having for each 100 grams of solids content, a total of from60 to 250 milliequivalents of chemically incorporated carboxyl groups, of which from 10 to 100% are neutralized thereby rendering the product dilutable in water andfrom 15 to 50% by weight of chemically incorporated moieties corresponding to the formula--O--RwhereinR represents an olefinically monounsaturated or polyunsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon having a molecular weight above 166 and containing from 12 to 22 carbon atoms, are prepared by:(a) preparing a co-polymer having a molecular weight from 5000 to 80,000, determined by gel permeation chromatography, and having intramolecular carboxylic acid anhydride units corresponding to the formula ##STR1## and an anhydride equivalent weight of from 240 to 1960 by a radically initiated co-polymerization of olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydrides with other olefinically unsaturated monomers,(b) reacting at least 50% of the acid anhydride units present in the co-polymer from (a) with an unsaturated monohydric alcohol corresponding to the formulaR--OH with anhydride ring opening ester formation, and(c) converting the free carboxyl groups in the reaction product of (b) to an extent of 10 to 100% into carboxylate groups by neutralization of the carboxys with a base.

    • The present invention relates to polyester polyols having a hydroxyl number of 60 to 400, which are esterification products of a) an alcohol component containing one or more aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohols having at least 3 hydroxyl groups and 3 to 8 carbon atoms with b) a carboxylic acid component containing itaconic acid, maleic acid, their anhydrides and/or fumaric acid, provided that at least 10 mole % of either component a) or component b) is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic, saturated or unsaturated monoalcohol or monocarboxylic acid having 1 to 18 carbon atoms.     • The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of alkoxylation products of organic carboxylic acids containing alcoholic hydroxyl groups by the reaction of any organic compounds containing at least one carboxyl group with alkylene oxides in an alkoxylation reaction in the presence of catalysts, characterized in that the catalysts used are phase transfer catalysts selected from the group consisting of(a) tetraalkylammonium or tetraalkylphosphonium halides in which the sum of carbon atoms of the alkyl groups is at least 8,(b) basic alkali metal compounds converted into complexes with crown ethers and(c) complexes of (i) basic alkali metal compounds and (ii) acyclic organic compounds containing at least 5 alkylene oxide units of the formula --R--O-- (R=C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkylene) in the form of one or more polyether chains having at least 3 alkylene oxide units, said compounds having a molecular weight of at least 238 and containing a total of at least 40% by weight of alkylene oxide units of the type indicated in polyether chains having at least 3 alkylene oxide units.The present invention also relates to the use of these alkoxylation products for the production of polyurethanes by reaction with organic polyisocyanates.
