The volume prevailing in the buffer chamber (23) that communicates with the first or second outlet line (15 or 22) can be so varied that the volume expands when the second or first equalization chamber (20 or 11) is emptied, and is reduced when the second or first equalization chamber is filled. As a result, the discontinuous pulse is smoothed on the outlet side of the balancing chamber.

    • A disposable balancing unit designed as a sheet bag includes two sheets (1, 2), which are heat-sealed together, forming a balancing chamber (4) that is divided by a flexible wall (8) into the two chamber halves (9, 10), and forming two equalization chambers (5, 6), as well as the channels (15 through 18) connecting the individual chambers.     • A method is provided for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids for an extra-corporeal blood processing device with an extra-corporeal blood circuit, comprising an arterial blood line, running from an arterial patient connection to a first chamber of a dialyzer or filter divided into said first chamber and a second chamber by a membrane and a venous blood line, running from the first chamber of the dialyzer or filter to a venous patient connection. A device is provided for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids for an extra-corporeal blood processing unit with an extra-corporeal blood circuit and an extra-corporeal blood processing device with a device for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids. The method and the device for monitoring the introduction of substitution fluids are based on monitoring the fluid level in the bubble trap, arranged in the venous blood line of the extra-corporeal blood circuit. The method and the device require that fluid is added to fill the extra-corporeal blood circuit, for example, for a rinsing procedure of the extra-corporeal blood circuit by means of the substitution fluid supply line arranged upstream or downstream of the dialyzer. A pre-dilution can be commanded when, after initiating the rinsing process the fill level in the bubble trap does not drop below a certain level. When by contrast the fill level drops below a given level a post-dilution can be commanded.

    • The present invention relates to a method for the operation of a pressure measuring device for the measurement of the pressure in a system through which fluid flows, in particular in an extracorporeal circuit of a medical unit, with the pressure measuring device having a measuring chamber which is bounded by a flexible membrane, through which fluid flows in the operation of the system or which is filled with fluid and also having a pressure sensor connected to the membrane for the purpose of pressure measurement, with the method including the following steps not requiring any intervention of the staff: a. increasing the pressure in the measuring chamber (12) to a pressure value at which the membrane (13) is at least slightly outwardly curved relative to the measuring chamber (12) in the state not connected to the pressure sensor (14) or determining such a pressure value; b: separating the membrane (13) of the measuring chamber (12) from the pressure sensor (14); c. joining together the membrane (13) of the measuring chamber (12) and of the pressure sensor (14) such that the membrane (13) of the measuring chamber (12) contacts the pressure sensor (14); and d. repeating the steps a. to c. at predetermined intervals and/or on the occurrence of an error case.
