    • An optical module includes a module body on which at least one photo diode is mounted, a filter holder inserted into the module body, and a thin film filter mounted on the filter holder in order to guide optical signals towards photo diodes in such a manner that optical signals with corresponding wavelengths are received in the photo diodes. The filter holder, on which the thin film filters are mounted, is fabricated separately from the module body and houses active elements, such as the laser diode and photo diodes. The filter holder is inserted into the module body thereafter, so the optical module is easily fabricated at a low cost and in a simple manner.

    • A bidirectional optical transceiver includes a wavelength-selecting filter, an optical fiber, a transmitting module, and a receiving module. The wavelength-selecting filter is placed on an optical axis, passes a first optical signal therethrough, and reflects a second optical signal perpendicularly to the traveling path of the second optical signal. The optical fiber has a face that is opposite to the wavelength-selecting filter and is inclined at an angle of φ with respect to a normal line perpendicular to the optical axis. The transmitting module is placed on the optical axis in opposition to the optical fiber with respect to the wavelength-selecting filter and has a light source for generating the first optical signal and outputting the generated first optical signal to the wavelength-selecting filter at an inclined angle with respect to the optical axis.

    • An optical receiver module is disclosed with a top open can (TO-Can) structure that includes a stem with holes thereon. The holes pass through both sides of the stem. A photo diode mounted on an upper side of the stem, for converting an optical input signal into an electric current. The optical receiver module includes a trans-impedance amplifier, mounted on the upper side of the stem, converts the electric current output from the photo diode into RF signals having opposite phases, amplifies the converted RF signals, and outputs the amplified RF signals to the outside via corresponding output terminals. Signal leads, passing through the holes formed on the stem, output the RF signals having the opposite phases amplified by the trans-impedance amplifier to the outside. Ground leads, extending from a lower part of the stem, ground the stem to the outside of the optical receiver module. Waveguides, mounted in a predetermined position on the upper side of the stem, match impedances between the trans-impedance amplifier and the leads. The waveguides conduct the RF signals output from the output terminals of the trans-impedance amplifier to the respective leads via corresponding electric paths.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for recognizing characters in a portable terminal with a scan module. Scanned image data is generated by the scan module by scanning a scan target through a scanning-light input/output panel provided on an external surface of the portable terminal as the portable terminal moves across the scan target. Part of the scanned image data is deleted when a current moving speed of the portable terminal is less than a lower limit of an optimal scan speed range, and character recognition is performed on remaining scanned image data. Image data most similar to the scanned image data is detected from a previously stored correction image database when the current moving speed is greater than an upper limit of the optimal scan speed range, and characters corresponding to the detected image data are output as character recognition results.
