摘要： Disclosed is a chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy article having an adherent, wear resistant coating of metallic oxides and a method of forming an adherent, wear resistant coating of metallic oxides on a chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy article. The coating desirably has a thickness of from about 25.4 to about 102 microns (1 mil to about 4 mils) and is formed by exposure of the article to an oxidizing atmosphere, preferably air, preferably during heat treatment of the article. Such articles are useful, inter alia, as torque drive inserts for a friction disk for a multi-disk brake or clutch assembly. The drive inserts can be formed of an alloy such as 17-4PH stainless steel alloy having an adherent coating of lubricious oxides formed during frictional contact. It is believed that these lubricious oxides will form also if the heat treated base alloy is subject to temperatures greater than 815.6° C. (1500° F.) for a sufficient time in an oxidizing atmosphere.

摘要： This invention relates to a method of inhibiting oxidation of a porous carbon-carbon composite comprising the steps of: (a) contacting the carbon-carbon composite with an oxidation inhibiting composition comprising phosphoric acid or an acid phosphate salt, at least one aluminum salt, and at least one additional metal salt, the oxidation inhibiting composition penetrating at least some of the pores of the carbon-carbon composite; and (b) heating the carbon-carbon composite at a temperature sufficient to form a deposit from the oxidation inhibiting composition within at least some of the penetrated pores of the carbon-carbon composite. The invention also relates to the foregoing oxidation inhibiting composition. The invention relates to carbon-carbon composites treated by the foregoing method.

摘要： Provided is a method of making an ODS molybdenum-rhenium alloy which includes the steps of:(a) forming a slurry containing molybdenum oxide and a metal salt dispersed in an aqueous medium, the metal salt being selected from nitrates or acetates of lanthanum, cerium or thorium;(b) heating the slurry in the presence of hydrogen to form a molybdenum powder comprising molybdenum and an oxide of the metal salt;(c) mixing rhenium powder with the molybdenum powder to form a molybdenum-rhenium powder;(d) pressing the molybdenum-rhenium powder to form a molybdenum-rhenium compact;(e) sintering the molybdenum-rhenium compact in hydrogen or under a vacuum to form a molybdenum-rhenium ingot; and(f) compacting the molybdenum-rhenium ingot to reduce the cross-sectional area of the molybdenum-rhenium ingot and form a molybdenum-rhenium alloy containing said metal oxide.The present invention also provides an ODS molybdenum-rhenium alloy made by the method. A preferred Mo--Re-ODS alloy contains 7-14 weight % rhenium and 2-4 volume % lanthanum oxide.

摘要： A method of using internal combustion engine exhaust in a combined cycle power plant is disclosed, wherein the quality and distribution of exhaust to the boiler space of a steam generated electric power plant is controlled to achieve greater system efficiencies. Outside air is blended only with that portion of the exhaust that passes through the burner ports as secondary or higher level combustion gas. The remainder of the exhaust is provided to the boiler space by a route other than through the burner. The highest overall system efficiencies are achieved where the amount of outside air blended with the portion of exhaust that passes through the burner is such that the blend contains about the minimum amount of oxygen required for complete and stable combustion of the selected fuel, where a substantial percentage of the total exhaust is routed to the boiler space by a route other than through the burner, and where the amount of fuel is sufficient to achieve a desired boiler entering temperature upon its combustion.

摘要： A wet-doping process for producing an oxide-dispersion strengthened (ODS), creep-resistant molybdenum alloy is disclosed. The alloy is made by adding nitrate or acetate salts of lanthanum, cerium, thorium, or yttrium to molybdenum oxide to produce a slurry, heating the slurry in a hydrogen atmosphere to produce a powder, mixing and cold isostatically pressing the powder, sintering in a hydrogen atmosphere, and thermomechanically processing (swaging, extruding, cold drawing) the product. The ODS molybdenum alloy produced by the process contains 2-4% by volume (.about.1-4% by weight) of an oxide of lanthanum, cerium, thorium, or yttrium. The alloy has high strength and improved creep-resistance at temperatures greater than 0.55T.sub.m of molybdenum.
