    • A method and an apparatus for forming circumferentially extending necked and flanged parts at an end of a bilaterally open hollow cylindrical body. First and second axially aligned shafts carry axially displaceable first and second inner tools, respectively. Each inner tool has a circumferential body-shaping and a circumferential body-supporting surface. In a first axial position of the two inner tools the shaping surfaces together define a circumferential shaping groove situated inside the hollow body, and the body-supporting surfaces support the hollow body. In a second axial position the two inner tools are at a greater axial distance from one another than in the first position to allow introduction of a hollow body therebetween. A third shaft, carrying an outer tool having a circumferential shaping surface, extends parallel to the first and second shafts. A positioning arrangement is provided for aligning the circumferential shaping surface of the outer tool with the circumferential shaping groove and for radially moving the outer tool towards the two inner tools such that a circumferential portion of the hollow body is deformed and forced into the shaping groove causing the two inner tools to axially spread apart from one another.

    • A roller knife cutter includes a first knife shaft pair for severing a ferromagnetic metal sheet into sheet metal strips forwarded in a first direction of advance; and a plurality of substantially coplanar plates arranged downstream of the first knife shaft pair in a series in the first direction of advance. The plates are separated from one another by a clearance. The cutter further has an endless belt having an upper run moving in a second direction of advance and positioned in the clearance and extending parallel therewith. The upper run has a lowered position in which a top surface of the upper run is at a level below the top surfaces of the plates and a lifted position in which the top surface of the upper run is substantially coplanar with the top surfaces of the plates; and a plurality of individually height-adjustable magnet units arranged in a series underneath the upper run parallel to the second direction of advance. Each magnet unit has a low position allowing the upper run of the endless belt to be situated in the lowered position and a high position raising the upper run into the lifted position.

    • An apparatus for receiving ferromagnetic container lids from a first processing unit and for advancing the lids to a second processing unit includes a storage track having first and second magnet assemblies extending parallel to the length dimension of the storage track. The magnet assemblies have a clearance from one another corresponding to an expected outer diameter of the lids for accommodating the lids in the clearance in an orientation in which the lid plane is perpendicular to the length dimension of the storage track. The lids are adapted to be suspended in the clearance by magnetic forces generated by the first and second magnet assemblies. First and second abutments are provided at opposite ends of the storage track and can be abutted by outermost lids suspended in the clearance. A supply conveyor extends to the storage track for introducing the lids in a vertical direction into the storage track; and a removal conveyor extends from the storage track for removing a lid therefrom. The lids in suspension in the clearance assume a spaced relationship relative to one another by mutual repulsion.

    • Two cooperating spiral conveyors are provided between a transport device having a transport plane and a transport segment. The conveyors are driven in opposite directions and are provided with opposite thread directions. The axes of the spiral conveyors are disposed at the height of the transport plane. The pitch and the thread clearance of peripheral recesses of the spiral conveyors decrease continuously from the transport device to the transport segment. A support surface for a lid is disposed between the two spiral conveyors. At the end contiguous to the transport device, the support surface has the same height as the transport plane, and at the end contiguous to the transport segment, its height is lower by half of the lid diameter.
