摘要： A hollow, flexible, bendable, cylindrical-shaped, hat-like sleeve is water-tightly joined with the upper end of the riser section of a manhole structure. The free end of the sleeve is trimmed so that its upper edge fits beneath the shoulder of the frame supporting the manhole cover to prevent subsurface water from entering into the manhole interior through the regions between the manhole cover supporting frame and the top of the riser section, which is usually fitted with adjustment rings to bring the manhole cover frame up to grade. The sleeve is easily cut to any height to accommodate either a greater or lesser number of height adjustment rings. The sleeve flange is cast into the riser section. The sleeve may be folded into itself to significantly lower its profile to expedite handling, transportation and assembly. A plastic clamping band may be placed into the interior of the sleeve to water-tightly join the upper end of the sleeve to the manhole cover support frame.

摘要： A resilient gasket having an outer annular flange positioned within a manhole opening and maintained thereagainst under compression by means of a compression band. The gasket is provided with a central opening defined by an enlarged beaded periphery having an elasticity adapted to tightly encircle the outer periphery of the pipe. A folded intermediate section is arranged between and integrally joined to the outer flange and the beaded inner periphery, the intermediate section is comprised of first and second diagonally aligned annular portions integrally joined along a fold to define a V-shape which imparts a yieldability enabling the gasket to maintain a watertight seal between the manhole opening and the pipe, even in the presence of a significant misalignment therebetween. A strap is positioned about the intermediate section of the gasket adjacent the inner beaded periphery to enhance the watertight seal between the gasket and the pipe. The compression band may be provided with pairs of substantially V-shaped slots which enable the band to assume a curvature in a direction transverse to the curved periphery in order to conform to the curvature of the manhole opening. The clamping band is formed of a material which is impervious to the surrounding environment and has a gap and a segment hingedly connected to the main body thereof for placement in said gap and against the interior surface of the gasket to lock the compression band in position and maintain the gasket flange under compression. An expansion assembly includes an expansion ring which cooperates with a hydraulic jack and is positioned against the compression band to expand the compression band into position against the gasket flange and to apply a force uniformly around the compression band to insure proper positioning and locking of the clamping band.

A strap encircling the gasket next to the beaded periphery enhances the watertight seal between gasket and pipe. The clamping band has free ends which cooperate with projections of a piston cylinder assembly. The clamping band is formed of material impervious to the surrounding environment. The expansion assembly includes the aforementioned piston cylinder assembly which cooperates with an hydraulic jack and is positioned with its projections against the free ends of the clamping band to expand the clamping band into a locked position against the gasket flange and to apply a force directly upon the clamping band to insure proper positioning and locking of the clamping band. The hydraulic jack may also include a swingable member having a free end which moves along a curved path to follow the movement of the clamping band as it expands. The initial configuration of the gasket expedites the insertion, expansion and locking of the clamping band. A cooperating groove receives a projection, said groove and projection being adjacent at oppostie ends of the clamping band to prevent relative axial movement of the clamping band ends as it is expanded.

摘要： Method and apparatus for providing inserts, such as lift inserts and step inserts, in cast members. The inserts have breakaway tabs mounted in receiving slots in either a reusable holder or disk-shaped member. The assembled insert and holder are inserted through a collar on the outer jacket of a mold assembly and a locking pin passes through cooperating openings in the holder and collar to retain the lift insert/holder in place during the casting operation. The disk-shaped member is fixed to a jacket of the mold assembly. The breakaway tabs break away from the insert when the cast member is separated from the mold assembly, the breakaway tabs being discarded and the holder (disk-shaped member) being reusable many times for subsequent casting operations. The slots, in one embodiment, have a locking shoulder to lock the tabs in their slots. In another embodiment, a cam surface on the tabs lock the tabs in the slots. In another embodiment, one slot and one tab differ in radial or circumferential length from the other tabs and slots to permit alignment between the slots and tabs in only one position to assure that the tabs are properly mounted in the holder.

A permanent magnet of a magnet assembly is inserted through co-aligned openings in the mandrels and is magnetically attracted to an inner-core of a casting assembly. When the cast member is set, a mechanical release is rotated to release the magnetic attraction between the permanent magnet and the mold core. One of the mandrels may be provided with shock absorbing knockout pads while the other mandrel has openings aligned with the knockout pads to enable the knockout pads to be struck with a hammer to separate the mandrels. Rubber cushioning members absorb the shock of the impacts, protecting the mandrel from permanent damage. One-piece hole formers may likewise be provided with a magnetic assembly having a mechanic release as well as knock-out pads.

摘要： Cast members are provided with a liner assembly to protect the cast material from corrosion. The liner assembly is formed of a plurality of curved liner sections having integral joining flanges. A resilient compressible gasket is arranged between opposing flanges and is provided with at least one flange receiving slot for receiving the flange of one of said liner sections to facilitate assembly thereof. Fastening means join the opposing flanges to compress the gasket and thereby provide a liquid-tight joint. Integral flanges are provided at the upper and lower ends of the liner sections to receive a sealant which is squeezed out of the seams formed by the mating sections when joined to protect the cast assembly from corrosion. The liner sections are formed of a material which is inert to the corrosive influences.

摘要： Method and apparatus for forming cast members. Steps are provided in the cast member by sliding mounting flanges of hollow plastic step inserts into slots provided in the inner mold shell. The cast material is then poured into the mold. Once the cast material has set, the cast member is withdrawn from the mold assembly. The step insert mounting flanges are broken away, leaving hollow step inserts into which manhole steps are force-fittingly mounted. The inserts are provided with integral cover tabs which cover larger slots provided to facilitate insertion of the step inserts, preventing leakage of the cast material into the mold assembly. Integral cover tabs are similarly provided on enforcement ring support members mounted in a similar fashion to insertion slots provided on one of the mold members to cover larger width slot portions to prevent seepage of cast material. Similar seals are provided by cylindrical-shaped inserts for use in wetcast and drycast fabrication methods.
