    • A vane pump is composed of a rotor that is rotatably disposed in a cam ring attached to a housing, a plurality of vanes that are slidably disposed in corresponding slits formed in the rotor in which the vane is projected from the slit upon rotation of the rotor, a pair of sidewall members that close both side portions of the cam ring to form a cavity defined by the cam ring and said sidewall members, a plurality of annular backpressure grooves that is depressively formed on contact surfaces of the sidewall members with the rotor in which adjacent two of the backpressure grooves are communicated with each other through a communication passage to introduce discharged pressure into an inside end portion of each of the slits, and depressions that are formed on at least one of the contact surfaces of the sidewall members with the rotor in which the depressions are not contacted with a part of side surface of each of the vanes.

    • An oil pump apparatus, including a pump mechanism portion for discharging operating fluid, a valve-receiving bore formed in a housing, a flow control valve arranged in the valve-receiving bore connected to a bypass hole, and a bypass passage. The bypass passage is connected to the bypass hole, having a space radially extending from an edge of the bypass hole in a fluid stream direction of the excess operating fluid spouting from an opening area of the bypass hole. When fluid stream of the excess operating fluid reaches the inner surface of the bypass passage, the pressure of the excess operating fluid has been weaken sufficiently because fluid stream of the excess operating fluid is diffused by the long span of the bypass passage extended from the edged of the bypass hole. Therefore, the inner surface of the bypass passage is protected from cavitation damages and erosion.

    • In a power-assisted steering system including a steering shaft arranged to be rotated by steering effort applied thereto, a fluid pump driven by a prime mover of the vehicle, a hydraulic cylinder having a power piston mounted for reciprocating movement in the cylinder and operatively connected to driven members of the steering system, and a servo valve interconnecting the fluid pump and the cylinder and being responsive to rotary motion of the steering shaft for selectively directing the flow of fluid under pressure from the pump to one of opposite fluid chambers of the cylinder and permitting the flow of fluid from the other fluid chamber to a fluid reservoir to effect reciprocating movement of the power piston, an electrically operated control valve of the normally closed type is disposed within a bypass passage between the opposite fluid chambers of the cylinder to permit the flow of fluid passing through the bypass passage in its energized condition so as to restrain rapid increase of the pump load during maneuvers of the vehicle. The control valve is arranged to be energized when the power piston approaches to its stroke end.
