    • A power steering fluid filter assembly having a housing defining an interior chamber, an upstream end and downstream end. The housing is substantially cylindrical having a substantially circular cross-section and longitudinal axis and at least one filter element through which fluid flowing through said housing passes. A plurality of inlet nozzles, each of which are selectively removable at the upstream end of the housing, the inlet nozzles having commonly sized cylindrical protrusions for fitting within the housing and differentially sized hose barbs for fitting within differentially sized hoses feeding power steering fluid to the housing. A plurality of outlet nozzles each of which are selectively removable at the downstream end of the housing, the outlet nozzles having commonly sized cylindrical protrusions for fitting within the housing and differentially sized hose barbs for fitting within differentially sized hoses through which power steering fluid exiting the housing passes. The inlet and outlet nozzles are releasably retained at the ends of the housing by, for example, removable clips, threads, or snap rings.

    • A steering system for a vehicle includes a fluid pump, an actuator in selective fluid communication with the fluid pump, a hydrostatic steering system and an electro-hydraulic steering system. The hydrostatic steering system includes a fluid controller having a first proportional valve in fluid communication with the fluid pump and a fluid meter in fluid communication with the first proportional valve and the actuator. The electro-hydraulic steering system includes a second proportional valve in selective fluid communication with the fluid pump and the actuator. The second proportional valve is disposed in parallel to the first proportional valve. The electro-hydraulic steering circuit further includes a load-reaction switching valve assembly disposed in series with the first proportional valve of the hydrostatic steering system. The load-reaction switching valve allows fluid communication between the actuator and the fluid controller when the first proportional valve is in a neutral position.

    • A power steering system having two or “dual” steering ratios is provided. The power steering system includes a transmission having first and second gear ratios, a steering gear coupled to the transmission, and a power assist coupled to the steering gear for providing power assist to the steering system. In one embodiment, the power steering system is configured to operate with a first steering ratio, such as a “fast” ratio, during normal operating conditions of the steering system (e.g., when power-assist is functional), and is configured to operate with a second steering ratio, such as a “slow” ratio, during abnormal operating conditions of the steering system (e.g., power-assist is non-functional, partially functional, etc.). The second steering ratio of the steering system can provide a fail safe mode for the vehicle operator so that the vehicle can be safely steered to a suitable location (e.g., side of the road, etc.) during abnormal operations conditions of the steering system.
