    • This invention relates to a volume control for an audio apparatus and more particularly to a fader for fading in or out a level of an audio signal. The volume control of the invention comprises a charge and discharge circuit having a capacitor charged and discharged by a constant current in response to a fade-in or fade out operation, and a function generator to generate a signal having a logarithmic waveform periodically repeated. A control signal generator compares the voltage across the capacitor of the charge and discharge circuit with the logarithmic waveform signal from the function generator to generate a control signal logarithmically varying in accordance with variation in the voltage across the capacitor of the charge and discharge circuit. An impedance controller logarithmically changes an impedance of an audio signal line in accordance with the control signal to logarithmically change the level of the audio signal in substance.

    • This invention relates to a mode changing system for a cassette tape recorder in which operating members such as a head base plate and a pinch roller are selectively moved to one of various modes such as stopping, fast forwarding, rewinding, pausing, cueing and playing. This system comprises control means to control the movable components so as to move them to a position corresponding to a selected one of the modes. The control means is actuated by a control electric motor. The system further comprises a mode selective switch group to select one of the modes, a reference signal generating circuit to generate a reference signal corresponding to the selected one of the modes in accordance with the selection of the modes by means of the mode selective switch group, a variable signal generating circuit to generate a variable signal which continuously varies with the rotation of the control electric motor and an operational circuit to receive both of the reference and variable signals so as to rotate the control electric motor for moving the movable components toward the position corresponding to the selected mode.

    • This invention relates to a playback system for a magnetic tape recorder comprising an amplitude distortion corrector. It has an input versus output characteristic such that when the input level is less than the playback saturation level, which corresponds to the start of non-linear characteristics of the playback signal produced from a recorded signal at more than the recording saturation level due to a saturation of the magnetic tape, the output level is proportional to the input level. When the input level is more than the playback saturation level, the input verses output characteristics is complementary to the input versus output characteristic of the magnetic tape at corresponding signal levels. The playback system further comprises a high frequency emphasizer having an emphasizing circuit section having predetermined frequency characteristics disposed before the amplitude distortion corrector to emphasize predetermined frequencies in the playback signal so as to correct frequency dependent variations in the non-linear characteristics of the playback signal corresponding to a high level recorded signal which occurs due to saturation of the magnetic tape. The playback system further comprises a high frequency attenuator disposed after the amplitude distortion corrector and having frequency characteristic complementary to that of the high frequencies emphasizer so as to attenuate the frequency emphasized by the high frequency emphasizer.
