    • A swash plate type compressor 1 includes a swash plate 3 rotating around a rotating shaft, pistons 4 that advance and retreat with the rotation of the swash plate and each are formed with a hemispherical concave sliding surface, and shoes 5 each formed with a flat end surface part 12 being in sliding contact with the swash plate and a spherical surface part 11 being in sliding contact with the sliding surface 4a of the piston. A cylindrical part 13 is formed between the spherical surface part and the end surface part of the shoe, and the shoe is formed with a flange part 14 that surrounds the boundary portion between the cylindrical part and the end surface part and is in sliding contact with the swash plate. Further, the flange part is located on the inside of an imaginary spherical surface S including the sliding surface of the piston, and the diameter d2 of the cylindrical part is smaller than the diameter d3 of the opening of the sliding surface of the piston. The shoe can be lubricated satisfactorily.

It is possible to provide the shoe 4 which is good in seize resistance in comparison with the past.

    • There is provided a semispherical shoe which is formed into a substantially semispherical shape by a convex semispherical surface 2 and a flat end surface 3, the semispherical surface having a slidably contacting surface 6 that is in slidable contact with a semispherical concave portion and non slidably contacting surfaces 7 and 8 that are not in slidable contact with the concave portion. When the semispherical shoe is manufactured, first, after a semispherical material having a semispherical surface following the concave portion has been formed, the surface of the portion that is to be the slidably contacting surface on the semispherical surface is quenched to expand the quenched portion from the original surface of the semispherical surface, whereby the sliding surface is formed on the surface of the expanded portion, and the other portions are made the non slidably contacting portions. By controlling the width of the portion that is to be quenched, the width of the slidably contacting surface can be set easily. Therefore, the surface pressure is increased with a decrease in width of slidably contacting surface, so that a danger of seizure can be reduced.

    • A sliding surface 4A of a shoe 4 undergoes laser radiation in a shape of a large number of parallel lines to form a large number of swollen portions 6 and to form concave portions 7 in adjacent positions thereof. The swollen portions 6 and the inner side thereof become direct hardening portions 11 with high hardness and the concave portions 7 and the inner side thereof become double hardening portions 12, which are lower in hardness than the swollen portions 6.After the laser hardening, the sliding surface 4A undergoes wrapping up to a position of an imaginary line 15 to delete relief to form a flat and smooth plane. Thereafter the sliding surface 4A undergoes buffing.Thereby, portions with low hardness are chipped off more largely than portions with high hardness to form a large number of minute irregularities on the sliding surface 4A (see FIG. 6).A large number of minute irregularities is formed uniformly on the sliding surface 4A of the shoe 4 and lubrication oil will be introduced thereinto. Therefore, a shoe 4 excellent in seizing resistant property can be provided.
