    • A power transmission device is proposed which makes it easy to start on a slope. A control type slip clutch and a mechanical type control type two-way clutch are mounted between an input shaft to which the rotation of an engine is transmitted and an output shaft mounted around the input shaft. The input shaft and the output shaft are engaged together by the slip clutch while producing slip, and thereafter the two-way clutch is engaged. This improves transmission efficiency. A one-way clutch is provided between the output shaft and a housing provided around the output shaft. In a stopped state on an upward slope, when depressing of the brake pedal is released and rotation in the reverse direction to the revolving direction of the engine is transmitted to the output shaft from the vehicle wheel side, the output shaft is locked by the operation of the one-way clutch, thereby preventing the vehicle from moving in the opposite direction to the moving direction.

    • A friction type continuously variable transmission has double cones kept in contact with an input shaft and a drive cone and is capable of transmitting the rotation of the input shaft to an output shaft so that the output shaft rotates at a higher speed than the input shaft. A mechanism is provided for preventing the double cones from rotating about the input shaft and from coming off of their support shafts. A stay is mounted on a carrier supporting the double cones. The stay carries a guide roller bearing received in a guide fixed to a housing of the transmission. The stay thus prevents the rotation of the carrier while allowing only its axial movement. A stopper surface is provided at one end of the guide to restrict the axial movement of the carrier within a predetermined range.

    • A rotation transmission device includes a control retainer and a rotary retainer having bars arranged circumferentially alternating with each other such that pockets are defined between the adjacent pairs of bars.     • A motor assembly includes an electric motor and a speed reducing mechanism.     • A rotation transmission device is provided which has a minimum play in the rotational direction, which is reliable by preventing the rollers from erroneously engaging during idling, and which has high torque capacity. When the control retainer 19A is moved away from the rotor 52, the control retainer 19A and the rotary retainer 19B are rotated relative to each other in the direction in which the circumferential width of the pockets 24 increases under the biasing force of the presser members 26, thereby engaging the rollers 25. While the inner race 12 is idling, the presser members 26 prevent the rollers 25 from moving radially outwardly, thereby preventing erroneous engagement of the rollers 25.
