摘要： A method for fabricating polymeric sheets containing microwires includes encapsulating at least a portion of individual lengths of a plurality of microwires in a non-conductive polymeric sheet while the microwires are attached to the substrate. The microwires are then detached from the substrate without removing the microwires from the polymeric sheet. The detaching step forms a separated polymeric sheet containing the detached microwires. Individual detached microwires of the plurality are approximately perpendicular to the separated polymeric sheet. A microwire array device includes a non-conductive polymeric sheet and a plurality of microwires. Individual microwires of the plurality have an independent length at least partially encapsulated by the polymeric sheet, are approximately perpendicular to the polymeric sheet, and contain magnetic ferrite.

摘要： Chopped fiber composite systems and methods are disclosed. Sorting systems include a conveyor, an imager, a plurality of receptacles, a pneumatic device, and controller. Molding systems include a conveyor, an imager, a mold, a pneumatic device, and a controller. The controller directs the pneumatic device to alter the freefall of chopped fiber composite pieces based on characteristics of the chopped fiber composite pieces as they drop from the conveyor and into a receptacle or a mold. Sorting and molding methods include dropping chopped fiber composite pieces, detecting characteristics of the dropping pieces, and directing the pieces based on the detected characteristics.

The nanotubes typified by CNTs or nanoparticles are oriented utilizing an electric field, and influence of an electrode is suppressed, thereby allowing for production of a large-area film containing nanotubes or nanoparticles including reliably oriented nanotubes or nanoparticles, at a low cost. The method for producing the film containing nanotubes or nanoparticles which are oriented along the plane direction of the film includes: placing a film precursor containing nanotubes or nanoparticles on an interdigitated comb-like electrode through a support, in which the comb-like electrode is arranged on an insulating plate and configured with electrode wires having a circular cross-section; applying an AC voltage to the comb-like electrode in a state with the film precursor present on the comb-like electrode; and converting the film precursor into a film.

The technique involves assembling the monolayer of particles on the interface between a solidifiable liquid and a fluid, which can be air or another liquid, ordering the particles using an electric field and then solidifying the former, e.g., by applying UV light. The monolayer becomes embedded on the surface of the solidified film. The monolayers can be coated onto the surface of materials to optimize their mechanical, thermal, electrical and optical properties.

In accordance with the proposed invention prior to and/or during solidification and/or polymerization and/or cross-linking of the matrix material or the matrix precursor material, respectively, a magnetic field is applied so as to align the reinforcing particles in the matrix and this alignment is fixed in the matrix during and after the third step, wherein the non-spherical reinforcing particles preferably have a length (l) in one dimension of at least 0.5 μm and wherein the weight ratio of the nano-particles to the non-spherical reinforcing particles is below 0.25.
