    • An aircraft landing gear including a wheel rotatable about an axle, a motor, and a bi-directional overrunning clutch, such as a roller or sprag clutch, operable to either connect the wheel with the motor or disconnect the wheel from the motor. The bi-directional clutch includes a ring-shaped overrunning track connected to the wheel, a ring-shaped drive track connected to the motor and concentrically aligned with the overrunning track, and a plurality of movable elements retained between the overrunning track and the drive track. The movable elements are movable between: a driven configuration in which they prevent relative rotation between the drive track and the overrunning track to thereby permit the wheel to be driven by the motor; and an overrunning configuration in which they permit relative rotation between the drive track and the overrunning track to thereby disconnect the wheel from the motor.

    • A rotation transmission device includes a control retainer and a rotary retainer having bars arranged circumferentially alternating with each other such that pockets are defined between the adjacent pairs of bars. The spring support pieces are plate-shaped members disposed radially outwardly of the elastic members to extend in the axial direction in parallel to the outer periphery of the inner ring.

    • A clutch, which is applicable to the applications where an electromagnetic clutch is conventionally used, is provided in order to realize the reduction of the clutch in size, weight and cost and the power saving of the clutch. A clutch according to the present invention includes: an input gear to which a rotational torque is input; a clutch member attached to an inner circumferential face of the input gear; a tapered roller acting as an engaging element; a retainer for holding the tapered roller; a cap member; a waved spring; an output shaft serving as a driven member; a housing for sheathing the input gear; a working member equipped with an operating lever; and a return spring serving as an elastic return member, for elastically supporting the working member. With a simple operation of pivoting the operating lever of the working member, the clutch can be easily switched between a state where the tapered roller is engaged in a wedgewise manner so as to drive and rotate the output shaft and a state where the wedge engagement of the tapered roller is cancelled to freely rotate the output shaft.

    • A controllable, multi-mode, bi-directional overrunning clutch assembly and a mode shift system are adapted for use in a transfer case for transferring drive torque from a primary output shaft to a secondary output shaft so as to establish four-wheel drive modes. The clutch assembly includes a first ring journalled on a first rotary member, a second ring fixed to a second rotary member, and a plurality of rollers disposed in opposed cam tracks formed between the first and second rings. The first ring is split to define an actuation channel having a pair of spaced end segments. An actuator ring is moveable between positions engaged with and released from the end segments of the first ring. The shift system includes a moveable clutch actuator which controls movement of the actuator ring for establishing an on-demand four-wheel drive mode and a locked or part-time four-wheel drive mode.

    • Socket-type wrenches using a magnetic ratchet/clutch-type apparatus are disclosed. The apparatus preferably employs several pawls, as well as a ratchet-type wheel for engaging the pawls. The apparatus also utilizes the wrench's body which defines a chamber in which the wheel is received for rotation relative to the wrench body. The chamber also defines pockets for positioning the pawls adjacent the wheel to facilitate their movement between a drive position and a release position. In the drive position, at least one pawl is sandwiched between the wheel and a wall of the pocket to prevent the wrench body and the wheel from rotating relative to each other which enables a drive stroke to be made with the wrench. In the release position, the pawl is disengaged from the wheel which permits one to make a return stroke with the wrench. The apparatus further includes a ring magnet mounted on at least one side of the wheel for magnetically attracting the pawls to facilitate their movement into the drive position. Finally, the apparatus includes abutments which are utilized during the return stroke of the wrench to move the pawls out of engagement with the wheel.
