    • An electronic control unit has two microcomputers. Each microcomputer has a data buffer storing data first to be transmitted in every 8 ms, a second data buffer storing data to be transmitted in every 16 ms, and a third data buffer storing data to be transmitted in every 16 ms and being different from the first and second data buffers. The microcomputer transfers at the transmission timing of every 8 ms data in the first data buffer to the transmitting buffer, while it transfers alternately the data in the second data buffer and the data in the third data buffer to the transmitting buffer. The microcomputer also transfers an ID that indicates content of the present transmitting data to the transmitting buffer.

    • In an electronic control system having a CPU, a RAM and an EEPROM, an original data stored in the EEPROM is written into the RAM to be updated in a control calculation processing of the CPU. If the updated data is the type which is to be written back into the EEPROM, a writing request is issued at the same time of writing into the RAM and an address and size of the updated data are also written into the RAM as a related data. Actual rewriting of the updated data into the EEPROM is executed based on the related data in a separate data rewriting processing in response to the writing request. Thus, interruption of the application processing for the data rewriting into the EEPROM can be shortened, and the updated data can be prevented from being broken and lost even upon instantaneous power-off.

    • A processing system includes microcomputers A, B. A rewrite program for the microcomputer A includes a transfer routine for transferring a rewrite program for the microcomputer B. When a program rewrite unit outputs the rewrite program for the microcomputer B, the microcomputer A executes the transfer routine to transfer the rewrite program for the microcomputer B. A boot program of each microcomputer thereby need not be modified even when a flash memory storing the boot program of the microcomputer B is replaced with a mask ROM or the like. This enables the processing system to flexibly meet various applications.
