    • In the occupant protection device according to the present invention, a restraint body joined with a driving mechanism is located near a target area of a seated occupant while being surrounded by an interior decoration member. Upon predicting a collision of the vehicle, the driving mechanism is actuated to protrude the restraint body from an opening in the interior decoration member for restraining the movement of the target area upon collision by its side facing the occupant, and when the collision is avoided, the driving mechanism returns the protruded restraint body in the opening of the interior decoration member. The restraint body is provided in the vicinity of its outer periphery with a retaining hole, a clip to be inserted in and retained by the retaining hole, and a guide surface for guiding the clip into the retaining hole for helping the restraint body to return in the opening of the interior decoration member. By this guide mechanism including the retaining hole, the clip and the guide surface, the restraint body is able to return to the opening of the interior decoration member smoothly without deteriorating the appearance.

    • In a knee protection system according to the present invention, a knee protection panel is driven from a standby position surrounded by an interior member to the vehicle rear side to a knee-protecting position in front of the knees of an occupant by a drive mechanism when the vehicle is crashing, whereby the knees moving forward are protected by the knee protection panel thus driven. The drive mechanism includes a holding portion for holding the knee protection panel in such a manner that the knee protection panel is moved rearward. Engagement portions are provided, respectively, at locations where the holding portion and the knee protection panel connect with each other in such a manner as to be brought into engagement with each other. These engagement portions are brought into engagement with each other when the holding portion is moved rearward due to the activation of the drive mechanism in such a manner as to prevent displacement of the knee protection panel relative to the holding portion while moving the knee protection panel rearward, as well as allowing the knee protection panel to be displaced vertically and horizontally relative to the holding portion prior to the activation of the drive mechanism. With the knee protection system according to the invention, the knee protection panel can be disposed at the standby position so as to have a visually attractive break with the surrounding interior member, without deteriorating mounting work efficiency.

    • A belt anchor incorporating seat track structure is employed in an occupant restraining seatbelt system for a vehicle and incorporates a seatbelt anchor for retaining a belt in the seatbelt system. The structure includes a lower rail which is rigidly secured to the vehicle and an upper rail which is movable along the lower rail in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. A seat of the vehicle is rigidly secured to the upper rail through a lower arm. The structure further includes a lock pin which extends through the lower arm and the lower rail. The load which acts on the belt anchor is transmitted to the lower rail through the pin. In addition, one end portion of the upper rail extends so as to overlap one end portion of the lower rail, so that the load acting on the belt anchor is further transmitted to the lower rail through the overlapping portions. Accordingly, the load which acts on the belt anchor is transmitted to the lower rail while being dispersed and is supported thereby, so that the load is reliably supported by the lower rail even in an emergency situation of the vehicle.

    • A knee protection airbag apparatus of this invention has an airbag having a construction in which folded and accommodated below the area in front of the knees of a passenger who is seated, and inflates upward toward the rear of the vehicle so as to be capable of protecting the knees of the passenger, when an inflating gas is inserted. The airbag includes a knee protection inflation portion which is disposed on the upper side of the airbag after completion of inflation and which is capable of protecting both knees of the passenger, and a shin facing portion disposed below the knee protection inflation portion after completion of inflation, in an area extending substantially vertically so as to be at the position of both shins of the passenger. Gas flow paths are disposed within both right and left edge sides of the airbag and can cause the inflating gas flowing at the lower part of the airbag to flow towards the knee protection inflation portion while inhibiting the shin facing portion from greatly inflating in the initial stage of inflation of the airbag.
