    • This invention relates to a fuel feeding system for an internal combustion engine, which is suited for use in an in-cylinder injection internal combustion engine. In a system provided with a control valve so that a fuel pressure can be changed over for an adjustment, it is an object of the present invention to permit good combustion in the engine even when the control valve becomes inoperative. The system is composed of a fuel line (3) arranged between a fuel injection valve (1) and a fuel tank (2), a low-pressure fuel pump (4), a high-pressure fuel pump (5), a high pressure control unit (10) for controlling a pressure of fuel from the high-pressure fuel pump (5), a fuel pressure control valve (14) for opening or closing a bypass passage (13), which bypasses the high pressure control unit (10), in accordance with a state of operation of the internal combustion engine, a low pressure control unit (9) for controlling to a lower pressure than the high pressure control unit (10), a fault detection unit (31) for detecting a fault in the fuel pressure control valve (14) and a resulting restriction of an opening of the bypass passage (13), and a drive duration changing unit (32) for changing, upon detection of a fault, a drive duration of the fuel injection valve (1) in accordance with a predetermined fuel pressure higher than a pressure controlled by the low-pressure control unit (9).

    • In a swash plate type axial piston pump, a swash plate 23 is fixed and supported in a cabinet while being inclined with respect to the center axial line of a rotary shaft 3. A cylinder block 15 having a plurality of cylinders 13 is attached to the rotary shaft 3 so that the cylinder block 15 slides of the rotary shaft 3 in the axial direction thereof and is rotated integrally therewith. Each one end of a plurality of pistons 21 is slidingly engaged with the cylinder 13 and the other end thereof is abutted against the swash plate 23 through a shoe 25. A valve plate 31 having a suction port 33 and a discharge port 35 is disposed so as to be abutted against the inner surface of the cabinet 1 and the bottom the cylinder block 15 so that a suction path 39 and a discharge path 41 in the cabinet 1 are selectively communicated with a pump chamber 14 in each cylinder through the suction port 33 and the discharge port 35. An operating oil is supplied to the sliding portion between the valve plate 31 and the bottom of the cylinder block 15 by a lubrication means. With this arrangement, since the operating oil is positively supplied to the sliding portion being rotated of the swash plate type axial piston pump, the sliding portion is sufficiently lubricated even if the pump is started to thereby prevent the dry state of the pump.

    • An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head having a pair of upright intake ports formed therein on opposite sides of a plug hole extending along a cylinder axis, and each intake port has an upstream-side upright part extending from the top face of the cylinder head along the cylinder axis and a downstream-side slanting part having an intake opening communicating with a combustion chamber on one side of an imaginary plane containing the cylinder axis. An upper opening of each intake port opening in the top face of the cylinder head has a peripheral edge extending along the peripheral edge of an upper opening of the plug hole, and the peripheral edge of the upstream-side upright part extends along the outer surface of a lash adjuster. When viewed in vertical section along the imaginary plane, the upstream-side upright part extends obliquely downward from the top face of the cylinder head in a direction away from the lash adjuster, and the downstream-side slanting part approaches the plug hole with decrease in distance to the combustion chamber and then extends parallel to the plug hole. The downstream-side slanting part, when viewed in vertical section perpendicular to the imaginary plane, extends away from the cylinder axis with decrease in distance to the intake opening. With the intake ports having the above overall shape and sectional shape, each intake port can be given a required cross-sectional area without increasing the dimensions of the engine, and makes it possible to form a proper intake air flow inside the combustion chamber.

    • This invention relates to a control system and method for an in-cylinder injection internal combustion engine, which perform control of the timing of fuel injection, the timing of ignition and an EGR rate to assure the stability of combustion in the engine and also its exhaust gas cleaning performance while promoting an improvement in gas mileage by performing injection in compression strokes. The system is provided with a fuel injection valve for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber, a spark plug arranged in the combustion chamber, an EGR valve arranged in an EGR passage, a fuel injection timing control unit for controlling a fuel injection timing of the fuel injection valve on a basis of a preset target fuel injection timing, an ignition timing control unit for controlling an ignition timing of the spark plug on a basis of a preset target ignition timing, an exhaust gas recirculation rate control unit for controlling an opening of the EGR valve on a basis of a preset target EGR rate, and a misfire determination unit for detecting a burning fluctuation, whereby upon detection of a burning fluctuation, the target fuel injection timing, the target ignition timing and the target EGR rate are retarded or decreased.
