    • An outboard engine assembly for use on a boat has an engine mechanism including in an upper region thereof an engine having a substantially vertical crankshaft and a vertical array of substantially horizontal cylinders. The engine mechanism is mounted on the stern of the boat by an attachment. The attachment includes a stern bracket adapted to be fixed to the stern of the boat, a swivel case supported on the stern bracket for vertical angular movement, a substantially vertical swivel shaft supported on the swivel case for horizontal angular movement, and a pair of upper and lower supports mounted on the swivel shaft and supporting the engine mechanism. The engine has joint members coupled to the upper support at a position between adjacent two crankshaft counterbalances which correspond to adjacent two cylinders, respectively, as viewed in side elevation, the joint members having respective portions located within a path of the two crankshaft counterbalances as viewed in plan. The engine mechanism also has a balancer mechanism mounted on a front wall of the engine for attenuating engine vibrations, and a fuel supply assembly mounted on an engine side wall.

    • An internal combustion engine with dry sump lubricating system includes a feed pump which supplies lubricating oil from a lubricating oil tank disposed outside an engine body to all moving parts in the engine. After circulating through the engine, the lubricating oil drops down into a crank chamber and is immediately picked up from the crank chamber and sent back into the lubricating oil tank by a recovery pump. Since the lubricating oil tank is attached to an end of the engine body from which a crankshaft project, it does not increase the overall width (dimension in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the crankshaft) and height of the engine. Even when the engine has inclined cylinders, the lubricating oil tank can avail a high degree of design freedom because the end face is not influenced by inclination of the cylinders as greatly as side surfaces of the engine body. The engine also includes a breather system so designed as to prevent an operation failure of the engine which would otherwise be caused due to inflow of the lubricating oil into an intake system of the engine.

    • In a V-type engine including first and second pistons connected to a common crank pin of a crankshaft through first and second connecting rods, a large end of each of the connecting rods is formed so that its lower surface assumes a substantially horizontal attitude at a most-lowered position of the crank pin. This ensures that even if the construction is such that the large ends of the conducting rods do not contact with a defined amount of oil stored in lower portion of a crankcase in the V-type engine, the lower portion of the crankcase can be formed at a small depth, thereby lowering the entire height of the V-type engine.

    • A small-sized boat of the present invention includes a plurality of diaphragm type carburetors corresponding to each cylinder of a multicylinder engine. A crankshaft axis extends along a line extending through a bow and a stern of a hull. The carburetors include a plurality of shafts for throttle valves extending vertically in correspondence thereto, one throttle link connected to upper parts of the shafts for the throttle valves, and a plurality of diaphragm mechanisms having operating surfaces perpendicular to the crankshaft axis. By linking a plurality of the carburetors together to form an assembly of the carburetors, an overall size of carburetors is made small. Therefore, each carburetor can be mounted in a small engine room in correspondence to each cylinder of the engine.
