A person's measure of influence is determined by characterizations of the person's fans based on monitored actions of the fans. Relevant promotional offers can be targeted to a consumer based indirectly on the actions of the fans of the consumer in addition to the direct behavior of the consumer himself. The actions and behavior of a consumer and his or her fans can be tracked within the fan-based network setting. Pushing relevant and high value offers enables rapid and viral spread of offers.

    • A system and method that computes a probability score indicating the probability that the user would prefer a particular item. The system prompts the user to review a particular item and subsequently prompts the user to reveal whether he liked the item or otherwise. The search engine also extracts the other review scores which were generated by the reviewers in respect of the item name specified by the user. Subsequently, the search engine also elicits the other review scores, preferably along with the corresponding reviews, in respect of the items reviewed by the reviewers who also reviewed the item specified by the user. The system further calculates probability scores indicating the probability that a user would prefer any of the items related to the reviews generated by the reviewers who also reviewed the item specified by the user. Accordingly the system generates recommendations based on the probability scores.

    • A system and method is described that enables a health care provider to monitor and manage a health condition of a patient. The system includes a health care provider apparatus operated by a health care provider and a remotely programmable patient apparatus that is operated by a patient. The health care provider develops a script program using the health care provider apparatus and then sends the script program to a remotely programmable patient apparatus through a communication network such as the World Wide Web. The script program is a computer-executable patient protocol that provides information to the patient about the patient's health condition and that interactively monitors the patient health condition by asking the patient questions and by receiving answers to those questions. The answers to these health related questions are then forwarded as patient data from the remotely programmable patient apparatus to the health care provider apparatus through the communication network. The patient data may also include information supplied by a physiological monitoring device such as a blood glucose monitor that is connected to the remotely programmable patient apparatus. When the patient data arrives at the health care provider apparatus, the patient data is processed for further management of the patient's health condition by the health care provider, such as forwarding another script program to the remotely programmable patient apparatus.

    • A diabetes care management system for managing blood glucose levels associated with diabetes comprising a computing device and an insulin delivery device. The computing device generally includes (i) a memory comprising one or more optimal blood glucose values, one or more self care values of a patient, one or more measured blood glucose values, and one or more scaling factors for weighting the impact on a future blood glucose value and that are customizable to an individual patient to predict the effect on the blood glucose of self care actions performed by the individual patient; (ii) a microprocessor, in communication with the memory, programmed to (A) determine the one or more scaling factors from one or more physiological parameters including body mass, metabolism rate, fitness level or hepatic or peripheral insulin sensitivity, or combinations thereof, and (B) calculate a further value, the further value being based on the self care values, and on the one or more optimal blood glucose values, and on the one or more scaling factors; and (iii) a display configured to display information according to the further value; and (iv) a housing, wherein the memory and the microprocessor are housed within the housing, thereby providing a hand-held, readily transportable computing device.     • The embodiments provide systems and methods for medical device rights and recall management system. A digital IP rights and recall management device activates a central key server to authenticate software contents and services operated on a microprocessor based medical devices through a coding key that may be embedded in a medical device or in a service provider server or in an end user computer. The recall management server unlocks the software content transmitted from or to a value-added service provider and selectively recall the value-added software component without requiring any physical recall of the medical device. The system maintains a virtual device master record which enables quality control and recall capability for software elements independent of any physical hardware recall.
