    • A drive arrangement for sliding roofs, window panes, and other similar sliding members of motor vehicles is constructed for motorized operation and also for emergency manual operation. According to a preferred embodiment, the driving shaft of the drive arrangement has a first part of a clutch constrained from movement therewith and a second part displaceably mounted relative to the first part for interconnecting the drive motor with a drive pinion and for disengaging the drive pinion from the drive motor in a second relative position of the clutch parts. The driving force transmittable between the above-noted clutch parts is controlled by an adjustment member mounted on the driving shaft. The adjustment member can be connected to a manually operable handle for emergency operation of the sliding member by a handle through the use of a locking member which secures the adjustment member relative to the driving shaft in a plurality of positions.

    • A wind deflector for sliding roofs of motor vehicles is mountable near the forward edge of a roof opening so as to be swivelable near its forward edge about an axis which runs at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the vehicle and is formed of a sheet metal strip and an overlying plastic strip that is connected thereto. The plastic strip can be connected with the sheet metal strip by either bonding, (e.g., adhesive or ultrasonic welding) shrink-fitting, clips, or the like. According to a preferred embodiment, the plastic strip is formed with internal chambers and is mounted in association with a metal strip so as to present a surface of the plastic strip that is at approximately the same height as an adjacent surface of the metal strip.

    • Vehicle roof with a series of plates for selectively closing and at least partially opening a roof opening in a fixed roof surface. The plates abut one another in the closed position and form a flat interlocking system of plates within which each plate is guided on each side on two guide points, that are spaced from each other in a sliding direction, along a guiding device that is connected with the fixed roof surface so that, when the plates are displaced, the flat interlocking system of plates performs a translatory movement during which the interlocking system is separated in a plate-by-plate manner when the roof is opened and is reestablished when the roof is closed. At least the forward guide points of the plates interact with the same guideway, and both guide points of the plates are maintained in engagement with the guiding devices over their entire path of displacement. The guiding devices are constructed and arranged with respect to the fixed roof surface so that the plates, when the roof is opened, dip under the fixed roof part at a rear end of the roof opening.

    • A process for the production of a cover unit with a seal for vehicle roofs in which a cover part, such as a glass cover part, a cover support and a profile part, having a replacement seal receptacle are inserted in a mold having an upper part and a lower part. The profile part is spaced from the cover part and the support leaving edge gaps which are filled by introducing an elastomer therein to connect this assembly to a cover unit. The profile part is attached and aligned, in a preferred embodiment, by attaching projections on the upper part and/or lower part of the mold depending on its position in the production of the cover unit. A peripheral seal can be molded on the profile part.This peripheral seal can be removed from the profile part, so that the seal receptacle of the profile part can be used to insert a replacement seal. Also, a resulting cover unit for vehicle roofs comprises a cover part, a cover support and a profile part with a replacement seal receptacle and an, optionally, molded-on peripheral seal. The cover part and cover support are connected to the profile part by an elastomer to form a cover unit.

    • A wind deflector arrangement for a motor vehicle roof of the type having a roof cutout closeable by a rigid sliding cover is provided. The wind deflector is mounted along its forward edge of the roof cutout and pivotable and about an axis located transverse to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Lever arms are provided at each lateral side of the sliding cover and extend from a pivot connection at the sliding cover to a frame part surrounding the roof cutout. A spring is provided which biases the wind deflector to pivot about the transverse axis. In order to minimize the lateral dimensions of the wind deflector arrangement, the lever arms are disposed directly underneath guide shoes for the sliding cover. The forward portion of the guide frame for the guide shoes of the sliding cover is cut away in the position above these lever arms so that the guide shoe rides on the lever arm to close the wind deflector when the sliding cover is moved to the closed position.

    • A vehicle roof provided with an opening closable by a cover and a frame of substantially U-shaped cross section extending along the edge of the roof opening. To facilitate the installation of such a vehicle cover, especially in the case of a used vehicle, the clamping arrangement comprises a plurality of retaining plates which are pressed against the vehicle roof by screws. When the screws have been loosened, the retaining plates can be pivoted so that the frame can be introduced from outside of the vehicle into the roof opening without removing the retaining plates and screws.
