    • A belt-converging type continuous casting apparatus for the continuous production of sheet bar-like cast sheet, wherein a casting space is defined by a combination of a pair of metal belts for supporting broad side planes of the cast sheet arranged opposite to each other with circulatedly moving, and a pair of tapered fixed-type side plates for supporting narrow-side planes of the cast sheet each disposed between the metal belts in intimate contact therewith, and is characterized in that the shape of the side plate is designed so as to satisfy the following relations:d=5-300 mm,D.gtoreq.60 mm,D/d.ltoreq.16,.theta..ltoreq.30.degree..theta.=tan.sup.-1 (D-d/Hto thereby prevent the occurrence of defects in the side planes of the cast sheet, while the metal belt is selected so as to satisfy the following relations:Sy.gtoreq.10,500 t/Dr,0.4.ltoreq.t.ltoreq.2.5,wherein Dr is a diameter of a guide roll (mm), to thereby prevent the deterioration of cast sheet quality and the casting accident accompanied with the deformation of the belt.

    • In the top-and-bottom blown converter steel making process, a process is provided wherein the position of the bottom-blowing tuyeres is set such that the maximum X.sub.0 among the distances X between the respective tuyreres and the center of the converter bottom is up to 1.3 times the horizontal distance Y between the central vertical axis of the converter and the outermost boundary of a hot spot region developed on the molten iron surface by the top-blowing oxidizing gas from the lance. By setting the position of the bottom blowing tuyeres in this manner, the interference of the bottom-blowing gas with the top-blowing gas is promoted to enhance the agitation between the slag and the metal to reduce the concentration of iron value (T.Fe) in the slag, thereby improving the iron yield.
