    • An improved unbalance vibration generator adapted to be driven at varying rotational speeds while maintaining a substantially constant exciting force throughout a range of rotational speeds. The generator includes an unbalance mass comprising first and second unbalance masses journaled for rotation and angularly offset from each other 180.degree. about the axis of rotation. The first unbalance mass is journaled on the axis of rotation and the second unbalance mass is radially movable in relation thereto. This radial movement is restrained by cam and spring means which provide predetermined non-linear restraint of the second unbalance mass relative to the first unbalance mass. This non-linear restraint corresponds to the centrifugal force acting on the rotating second unbalance mass which varies with the square of the rotational speed, thereby reducing the total unbalance of both unbalance masses as the rotational speed increases and, alternately, increasing the total unbalance as the rotational speed decreases while maintaining the exciting force substantially constant.

    • A braking system is provided for a construction machine, including a ground engaging drive apparatus. The construction machine includes a hydraulic drive system, including a hydraulic motor connected to the ground engaging drive apparatus and a first hydraulic pump for supplying fluid under pressure to the motor, the pump and motor being connected so that a braking force may be applied to the drive apparatus by varying the discharge volume of the first pump. A first valve is connected between an inlet and an outlet of the first pump for shunting the pump. An emergency brake is connected to the ground engaging drive apparatus, and is mechanically biased in a brake applying direction. A second hydraulic pump supplies fluid to a hydraulic actuator for releasing the emergency brake. A second valve is located between the second pump and the hydraulic actuating means. A common actuator is connected to the first and second valves and is variable between a first position wherein the first valve is closed and the second valve is open, and a second position wherein the first valve is open and the second valve is closed. A sensor detects movement of the common actuating actuator between the first and second positions, and causes fluid pressure to be relieved from the hydraulic actuator so that the emergency brake is applied before the second valve is closed. Downstream of the second valve is an auxiliary pump for supplying pressure to release the emergency brake when the common actuating handle is in its second position.

    • A vibration damper includes a pressure tube in which a piston on a piston rod which can move axially is guided by means of a piston rod guide which closes the pressure tube. The piston divides the pressure tube which is filled with damping medium into two working chambers. A piston ring which covers a peripheral area of the piston has an essentially U-shaped cross section with retaining surfaces, whereby the retaining surfaces are supported on the upper and lower side of the piston. On at least one side of the piston, at least a portion of the piston on which the retaining surfaces of the piston ring are engaged has a profiled surface. The profiled surface is configured such that the distance between one side of the piston and a hypothetical reference plane which runs parallel to the piston side is alternately less than and greater than a specified size of fit.
