    • Plastic housing and base construction, especially for compact fluorescent lamps and operating units thereof comprising a housing (1) which is a cup-like body and a base (2) having a metal base shell (26) and at least one metal central (3) or end contact part (4, 5). The base shell (26) is electrically insulated from the central (3) or end contact parts (4, 5). The base (2) also includes a plastic insert body (20) which is open at its upper end and closed at least partially at its lower end. The diameters of the plastic insert body (20) decrease in at least one step and it has a cylindrical or slightly conical mantle portion (24) in the region of its upper end. The base shell (26) includes a thread-free opening portion (27) the inner diameter of which fits to the mantle portion (24) of and is pulled over and fixed to the plastic insert body (20). The metal central contact part (3) or each end contact part (4, 5) is fixed to the lower end of the insert body (20) which has a rim (22) at its upper end for connecting to the housing (1). The housing in turn has a connection end (11) for receiving the insert body (20).

    • The invention relates to an electric lamp, especially a compact fluorescent lamp comprising a light source as well as a base part constructed to be suitable for supporting and for mechanically and electrically connecting the light source to a lampholder and embracing the ends of the light source where the ends of the electrical leads of the light source are connected to contacts fixed on the base part. The invention also relates to a method for fixing the light source and the base part of an electric lamp, especially of a compact fluorescent lamp to each other. The essential feature of the lamp according to the invention is that an adapter piece embracing at least one of the ends of the light source being with its ends in the base part is fixed to the end(s) of the light source, and the adpapter piece is fixed to the base part. The essential feature of the method according to the invention is that an adapter piece is placed on at least one end of the light source provided with a pinched portion which adapter piece is fixed on the pinched portion of the lamp by snapping, and the surfaces of the adapter piece and of the pinched portion are formed to be suitable for being snapped into each other, and the end(s) provided with the pinched portion(s) of the light source is (are) placed into the base part, and the adapter piece(s) is (are) fixed here by means of a permanent joint.

    • A discharge tube arrangement for a compact fluorescent lamp is provided. This discharge tube arrangement has a central axis and longitudinal end portions, and is formed of at least one discharge tube made of glass, encloses a discharge volume which is filled with a discharge gas and has a fluorescent phosphor coating disposed on an inner surface portion of the tube. The tube forms a continuous arc path and has electrodes disposed at each end of the arc path. The discharge tube arrangement comprises a first cold chamber in order to control and maintain a required mercury vapor pressure. The first cold chamber is located in a longitudinal end portion of the tube arrangement. The discharge tube arrangement is further provided with at least one second cold chamber, which is positioned between the longitudinal end portions of the discharge tube arrangement. The at least one second cold chamber is positioned on the wall of the tube, and has a cold chamber wall protruding substantially away from the central axis of the discharge tube arrangement. The discharge tube arrangement may have a coiled configuration with helical tube portions or a multifinger configuration with straight tube members.
