    • A coupling for joining pipe elements in end to end relation is disclosed. The coupling includes interconnectable coupling segments having connection members at opposite ends. The connection members are tightenable for drawing the segments toward one another and into engagement with the pipe elements. Each segment has a concavity positioned between inwardly projecting arcuate surfaces that engage grooves in the pipe elements. The concavities house a sealing member that extends circumferentially around the pipe elements. Angularly oriented surfaces are positioned adjacent to the connection members. The surfaces on facing segments engage one another and cause the segments to rotate in opposite directions about an axis perpendicular to the pipe elements. The concavities are angularly oriented with respect to the axis so that when the segments rotate, the cavities receive the sealing member without distorting it. A method of joining pipe elements end to end is also disclosed.

    • A method of producing a processed kava product involves using an extraction solvent, such as liquid CO2, to preferentially extract different kavalactones from the source material at different rates. By controlling the extraction parameters and stopping the extraction before all of the kavalactones have been extracted or allowing the extracted kavalactones to be preferentially precipitated in one or more collection environments, a processed kava product can be produced that has a kavalactone distribution profile that can differ substantially from that of the source material. As a result, roots from a less desirable kava cultivar can be used to produce a processed kava product which has a kavalactone distribution profile that is similar to that of a highly desired cultivar. The kava paste can be further processed to produce a dry flowable powder suitable for use in, e.g., a tableting formula. A rapid dissolve tablet formulation for use in the delivery of kavalactones and other botanicals is also disclosed.

In particular, the present invention comprises methods for making maté compositions that have a predetermined characeteristic, such as a lowered amount of caffeine, elevated amounts of caffeoyls, and/or lowered amounts of tannin compounds compared to the native maté plant materials. Further, the invention comprises methods of additional processing steps to produce compositions having a predetermined alkaloid ratio or profiles to meet particular considerations for final products. The compositions of the present invention may be processed for specific uses such as tablets or other oral delivery vehicles. These compositions may be used in methods for treatment of physiological and medical conditions.
