    • A lightweight millimeter wave outdoor unit includes a lightweight housing with a heat sink and mounting member configured for mounting on the antenna to form a wireless link. A millimeter wave transceiver board is formed of ceramic material and mounted within the housing. It includes a millimeter wave transceiver circuit that has microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) chips and operable with the transmit and receive boards. An intermediate frequency (IF) board has components forming an intermediate frequency circuit operable with the millimeter wave transceiver circuit. A frequency synthesizer board has a signal generating circuit for generating local oscillator signals to the transceiver circuit. A controller board has surface mounted DC and low frequency discrete devices thereon forming power and control circuits that supply respective power and control signals to other circuits on other boards. A quick connect/disconnect assembly is operative with the housing for allowing the housing to be rapidly connected and disconnected to the antenna circuit contact members interconnect circuits between boards.

    • A phase locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer generates a high frequency signal by generating an output signal from a voltage controlled oscillator of a primary phase locked loop (PLL) circuit. The voltage controlled oscillator output is programmably divided with a reference signal output at a divide ratio such that the outputs are equal to a common phase comparison frequency. An external reference signal used for the primary phase locked loop circuit is isolated by generating a voltage controlled, clean reference signal and filtering and synchronizing the clean reference signal with the external reference signal within a secondary phase locked loop circuit to produce the reference signal output to the primary phase locked loop circuit.

    • A direct digital synthesizer (DDS) has reduced spurious signals and includes a DDS core that produces a digital representation of a signal to be synthesized. A plurality of DDS circuits are operatively connected to the DDS core, each having a digital-to-analog converter connected to the DDS core for receiving the digital representation and converting it into a signal. A modulator is operatively connected to an oscillator circuit and digital-to-analog converter for receiving signals from the digital-to-analog converter and producing a modulated output signal. The individual frequencies of the respective DDS circuits are randomly and continuously changed from each other. A mixer receives and mixes the modulated output signals from the plurality of DDS circuits to create a mixed output signal at a selected and fixed frequency.

    • A millimeter-wave (MMW) based screening system is provided that may operate with an active sensor, a passive sensor, or in a dual mode using both the active and passive sensors. One or more such sensors are mounted so as to rotate along an axis that passes through a target region of detection, in which a person or object is positioned for screening. A reflector is disposed radially outward from the one or more rotating sensors to reflect MMW radiation between the sensors and the target region. The system may be employed as a portal screening system, and may include a structure having a wall and a roof, for rapidly screening persons for concealed objects. Algorithms may be employed to provide data output that avoids privacy issues.

    • A millimeter wave filter for surface mount applications includes a dielectric base plate having opposing surfaces. A ground plane layer is formed on a surface of the dielectric base plate. At least one low temperature co-fired ceramic layer is positioned over the ground plane layer and defines an outer filter surface. A plurality of coupled line millimeter wavelength resonators are formed as stripline or microstrip and positioned on the outer filter surface. These resonators can be parallel coupled line filters, including hairpin resonators. Radio frequency terminal contacts are positioned on the surface of the dielectric base plate opposite the at least one low temperature co-fired ceramic layer. Conductive vias extend through the at least one low temperature co-fired ceramic layer, ground plane and dielectric base plate and interconnect the radio frequency terminal contacts and coupled line resonator.
