    • A high-performance, high-reliable backplane bus has a simple configuration and operation. An error reporting network (ERN) provides an inexpensive approach to collecting the error state of a whole system in a uniform and consistent way. The uniformity allows for simpler interface software and for standardized hardware handling of classes of errors. In a preferred embodiment, serial error registers are used, minimizing implementation cost and making the software interface to the serial registers much easier. Serial error information is transferred over a separate data path from the main parallel bus, decreasing the chance of the original error corrupting the error information. Each CPU is provided with a local copy of the entire body of error information. The redundancy minimizes the impact of a possible CPU failure and allows the CPUs to coordinate error recovery.

    • A method and portable electronic device provide pricing information to a customer and enable switching service from a current provider to a desired provider in response to a selection by the customer on the portable electronic device. In the method, pricing information associated with the current provider and with competitor providers is gathered. Then, the portable electronic device displays the respective pricing information and each associated provider for selection by the customer. In response to the selection of the desired provider by the customer, the portable electronic device automatically deactivates service from the current provider and activates service from the desired provider.

    • There is provided a system and method for rule-based dynamic server-side streaming manifest files. There is provided a method comprising receiving a request to provide a first video content for playback, evaluating a plurality of rules for the first video content, generating a dynamic manifest file referencing the first video content, and providing the dynamic manifest file in response to the request, thereby enabling an application to playback the first video content for output on a display by interpreting the dynamic manifest file. The rules may implement various features such as dynamic advertisement insertion, load balancing, client customization, user and device targeting, enhanced security mechanisms, global announcements, and others. As streaming protocols are widely supported by default on many client platforms, the dynamic manifest files can be utilized in a user friendly and transparent manner compared to client-side solutions requiring cumbersome client software installations.
