    • A portable apparatus for reducing the dimensions of a workpiece using rotatable work means. The apparatus comprises in combination: a portable electric drill motor having a shaft-receiving chuck; a work means rotatable about its longitudinal axis and supported by the chuck and a journalled support member; a guide member supporting the drill motor; a base member adapted to receive and support (1) the guide member adjacent one end, (2) the journalled support member adjacent the other end, and (3) a working element support between the guide member and the journalled support member; the base member having retentive parallel positioning rails extending longitudinally along each lateral edge of a face of the base member; the guide member being slidable longitudinally of the base member whereby the drill motor is adjustably positionabletoward the journalled support member to allow the working means to be rotatably supported.

    • A Kemmerer style water sampler has a tubular body open at both ends and through which extends a connecting rod. The lower end of the connecting rod is fixed to a closure for the lower end of the body. The upper end of the connecting rod is releasably latched to an upper closure and carries a latch member which is engageable by and disengageable from a pair of clasp members mounted on the upper closure for movements in directions into and out of latching position. Each clasp member is provided with an upstanding motion transmitting member having inclined, confronting surfaces spaced apart to provide a chamber. Reciprocably accommodated in the chamber is an operating member that is tapered complementally to the inclination of the surfaces of the motion transmitting members so that movement of the operating member axially in one direction effects movement of the clasp members out of latching engagement with the latch member, thereby enabling the upper and lower closures to seal the opposite ends of the body.

The apparatus comprises in combination: a portable electric drill motor having a tool shaft-receiving chuck; a workpiece abrading means operatively connected with a shaft adapted to be engaged by the chuck; a guide member supporting the drill motor; a base member adapted to receive and support (1) the guide member adjacent one end, and (2) a housing generally surrounding the abrading means adjacent the other end; the base member having retentive parallel positioning rails extending longitudinally along each lateral edge of a face of the base member; the guide member being slidable longitudinally of the base member whereby the drill motor is adjustably advanceable toward the end of the base member to allow the tool to be aligned with the housing or guard.
