摘要： A method of detecting a contact between a transducing head and a storage medium is provided. The method applies an input signal, having a select power level and known frequency, to an actuator for actuating the head. An output signal is obtained in response to the input signal. At least one signal component is extracted from the output signal at the same or a harmonic of the same known frequency as the input signal applied to the actuator. Whether the at least one extracted signal component indicates a contact between the head and the medium is determined. The power level of the applied wave pattern is increased incrementally until the extracted signal component indicates a contact between the head and the storage medium.

The flexible interconnect circuit has interconnecting leads which connect the flexible interconnect circuit to a transduction head. To ensure the transducing head is able to follow the surface of the disc and properly read from and write to the disc, the interconnect leads are constructed with a varying width. The leads are widened at the points where breakage usually occurs and are narrowed at a middle portion to ensure the leads maintain the desired flexibility.

The flex circuit head interconnect is disposed on the load beam, the interconnect has a base dielectric layer, a plurality of electrical conductors disposed thereon, and a head attach region. The head has a top side and an air bearing surface bottom side, the head is coupled to the head attach region of the flex circuit head interconnect such that the head gimbals about the dimple. The flex circuit head interconnect includes a displacement limiter disposed proximate the head attach region, the limiter contacting the tongue when the head is moved a predetermined distance away from the dimple.

摘要： A disc drive flex circuit head interconnect includes a base insulating layer. At least one flexible electrical conductor is attached to the base insulating layer. The electrical conductor has first and second ends, the first end is adapted to couple to a head, and a second end adapted to couple to an actuator board through a slot in the actuator board. An insulating spacer covers at least a portion of the electrical conductor and extends beyond at least one edge of the base insulating layer near the second end of the conductor. A disc drive incorporating the interconnect and a method of interconnection is also provided.
