摘要： In order to preheat pieces of iron scrap of various sizes and shapes highly effectively while avoiding the fusion of the pieces of iron scrap, a rotary kiln type preheating furnace and a shaft type preheating furnace are arranged in parallel with each other in the front stage of a melting furnace in which iron scrap is melted, and preheated iron scrap is charged from both preheating furnaces into the melting furnace. A damper is provided between the shaft type preheating furnace and the melting furnace, so that exhaust gas discharged from the melting furnace is prevented from directly flowing into the shaft type preheating furnace and introduced into the rotary kiln type preheating furnace. Exhaust gas which has passed through the rotary kiln type preheating furnace is introduced into the shaft type preheating furnace preferably from an upper portion and discharged from a lower portion. The rotary kiln type preheating furnace and/or the shaft type preheating furnace includes an air or oxygen gas introducing port used for burning components contained in the exhaust gas.

摘要： An apparatus for sealing the skirt of a converter waste gas recovery system is disclosed, which includes an annular flange that is mounted about the outside surface of the converter adjacent to its mouth at a point clear outside the reach of the molten slag and metal that might spill over the rim of the converter mouth during the process of blowing. An annular sealing band is provided at the lower peripheral portion of the skirt, which runs surrounding the mouth. The annular sealing band is divided into multiple arcuate segments of a whole bandage, each pivotally disposed on a horizontal pin and connected to a separate hydraulic cylinder through its axially movable piston rod. It is so designed that the segments of the annular sealing band are individually yet simultaneously swung about their respective pins by their hydraulic cylinders into abutting contact with the external periphery of the flange providing a tight leakproof seal. In the contacted surfaces of the annular sealing band and the flange, sealing is most unlikely impaired by clumps of solidified slag and metal spilled in molten state from the converter mouth as in the skirts of conventional waste gas recovery systems.

摘要： A transport apparatus comprising a plurality of metal rolls for transporting a hot heavy material is disclosed. Each roll is provided with a desired number of ring-like circumferential grooves which are filled with a heat insulating material, and the grooves of each roll are staggered with respect to the grooves of the adjacent rolls. In accordance with the present invention, the temperature drop of the hot heavy material during the transportation can be greatly reduced, and in addition, the temperature fluctuation in both the sectional direction and the longitudinal direction of the hot heavy material is sharply decreased. The invention contributes considerably to the realization of the direct rolling process on an industrial scale.
