    • The invention relates to a method for producing hydrogen, comprising: (i) reacting an alkali metal compound with a carbon-containing substance and hydrogen to obtain an alkali metal hydride; and (ii) reacting the alkali metal hydride that has been obtained with water to obtain hydrogen and alkali metal hydroxide. The invention also relates to a method comprising the steps of: (a) reacting a carbon source with water to obtain a carbon-containing substance; and (b) reacting the carbon-containing substance that has been obtained with hydrogen and an alkali metal compound to obtain an alkali metal hydride. In another embodiment a method is described comprising the steps of: (a) reacting a carbon source with water to obtain hydrogen; and (b) reacting the hydrogen that has been obtained with a carbon-containing substance and an alkali metal compound to obtain an alkali metal hydride.

    • A modular plant for the generation of electrical energy from solar energy. The principle structure consists of a conversion module (1) for the conversion of solar energy into biological raw material, a gasification module (2) in the form reactor for the gasification of biological raw material, and a fuel cell module (3) for the conversion of gas into electricity using fuel cell technology. The conversion module (1) contains an aggregate (4) for harvesting biological raw material and a processing aggregate (5) for processing biological raw material into a gasification product. The gasification module (2) is connected to the processing aggregate (5) via a supply unit (6). The fuel cell module is connected to the gasification module for cleaning of the fuel gas by a device (8). The performance of the gasification and fuel cell module has been designed in relation to the system performance, so that part of the fuel gas can be used for the water vapour production (12) and a further part and/or the waste heat of the modular power plant for the drying of harvested biological raw material.

    • The invention concerns a method of generating electrical energy from biomass which is produced in a biomass-production module. The biomass is gassified in a reformer module to form a hydrogenous crude gas from which a purified gas with a higher hydrogen content is produced. Electrical energy is generated from the purified gas in a converter module. In this case, biomass with low sulfur and chlorine contents is produced by a suitable fertilizing of plants. The reformer module operates with at least one allothermic reformer, the dwell time of the biomass or crude gas in the reformer, and the temperature and pressure therein being set so that the alkali compounds can be removed from the reformer with any ash produced. Tar is gassified in the reformer to form carbon monoxide and hydrogen. A purified containing less than 1% carbon monoxide is produced in the crude gas processing module. The purified gas is reacted in at least one PEM fuel cell to produced electric current, the operating temperature of the fuel cell, and both the water content and pressure of the purified fuel gas being adapted to one another to produce an optimum flow density.
