    • A hopper car discharge section may be wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Outflow is controlled by closure members, at least one of which is movable. The closure members come together to a closed condition or position for retaining lading. When apart, in an open position or condition, lading may be discharged. A seal member or seal member assembly is mounted to one or both of the closure members. When open, the seal member or seal member assembly lies substantially flush with, or shy of, the slope of the surface of the closure member. When closed, the seal member may be self-energizing, in the sense that as lading is added the seal may tend to seal more tightly. The seal assembly may include a cantilevered spring that presents a land to the opposed closure member, and a fulcrum, over, or across, which the spring is cantilevered, such that pushing down on one end of the spring may tend to cause the other end to flex upward. The fulcrum may also be cantilevered outward from the slope sheet of the closure member to which the seal assembly is attached. The discharge section may be robustly reinforced to discourage deformation.

    • A method for acoustic imaging by angle beam, which includes generating a sound wave, coupling the wave at an angle to a first surface of a test piece via a physically continuous path. The test piece also has a second surface. The angle being such that the wave progresses along a vectors at an angle to the first surface and the second surface and along the test piece via a plurality of sound reflections reflecting between the first surface and the second surface at points progressing away from the transducer location. The angle also being such that the sound reflections at the first surface produce energy at the first surface such that a first part of every reflection of the wave continues through the first surface in the form of wave through a media toward a CCD acoustic imaging camera, while a second part of the reflection continues along in the test piece. Then focusing the first part of the reflection of the wave such that the first part of the reflection of the wave travels to an imaging area where it is transformed to a video output which displays an internal volume image of the test piece.

    • A bone anchor includes first and second anchoring legs and a bridge joining the anchoring legs between their proximal and distal ends. Portions of the anchoring legs on a proximal side of the bridge are configured to elastically compress together in response to an insertion force applied to the bone anchor during insertion of the bone anchor into a bone hole, and to plastically splay apart in response to a withdrawal force applied to the bone anchor. Portions of the anchoring legs on a distal side of the bridge are configured to compress together in during application of the withdrawal force to limit the splaying of the proximal portions of the anchoring legs. A method for attaching soft tissue to bone includes inserting the bone anchor with attached suture into the bone, and deploying the bone anchor within the bone by applying tension to the suture.
