摘要： A system and method for lowering the structural natural frequency of a synthetic jet actuator is disclosed. A synthetic jet actuator is provided that includes a first plate, a second plate spaced apart from the first plate and arranged parallelly thereto, and a spacer element configured to space the first plate apart from the second plate and define a chamber along with the first and second plates. The spacer element includes at least one orifice formed therein such that the chamber is in fluid communication with an environment external to the chamber, and the spacer element is constructed to deform in a bending motion in response to a deflection of at least one of the first and second plates.

The inner surface defines at least one hollow, interior space, and the outer surface defines one or more grooves that extend at least partially along the outer substrate surface and have a respective base. One or more access holes are formed through the base of a respective groove, to connect the groove in fluid communication with the respective hollow interior space. The component further includes a coating comprising one or more layers disposed over at least a portion of the outer substrate surface. The groove(s) and the coating together define one or more channels for cooling the component. One or more trenches are formed through one or more coating layers and at least partially define at least one exit region for the cooling channel(s). A method of fabricating a component is also provided.

摘要： Disclosed is a system for cooling an electronics package. The system includes a fluid pump and a microcooler assembly. The system utilizes one or more cooling layers interspersed with layers of electronics in the electronics package. Each cooling layer has an array of cooling channels formed in a substrate, an input manifold through which cooling fluid is provided for distribution through the array of cooling channels, and an output manifold which collects fluid from the array of cooling channels. The elements of the cooling system are integrated by conduits including a package conduit for passage of fluid from the fluid pump to the electronics package, a cooler conduit for passage of fluid from the electronics package to the microcooler assembly, and a pump conduit for passage of fluid from the microcooler assembly to the fluid pump. Also disclosed is a method for cooling the electronics package.

摘要： A thermal management system includes graphene paper disposed between a heat source and a heat sink to transfer heat therebetween. The graphene paper is oriented such that the individual layers are substantially perpendicular to the plane of the heat source and the plane of the heat sink to maximize heat transfer. The heat source and the heat sink can be any physical structure that emits and absorbs thermal energy, respectively. The graphene paper may be bonded to the heat source and the heat sink using a bonding agent, such as a thermally conductive material, and the like. The graphene paper may be formed in several different configurations, such as a spring structure, and the like.

摘要： The damper system includes a ceramic composite shroud in part defining the hot gas path of a turbine and a spring-biased piston and damper block which bears against the backside surface of the shroud to tune the vibratory response of the shroud relative to pressure pulses of the hot gas path in a manner to avoid near or resonant frequency response. The damper block has projections specifically located to bear against the shroud to dampen the frequency response of the shroud and provide a thermal insulating layer between the shroud and the damper block.

To enhance the heat transfer rate from the copper end turns of the field endwinding region, the downstream wall of at least one spaceblock is contoured to lower a suction pressure developed at the trailing edge of the spaceblock. In a preferred embodiment, the downstream wall of the spaceblock has a re-entrant contour to enhance the rotating cavity cooling flow.

摘要： A two-stage valve for controlling the flow of gas from a pressurized gas supply with an upper main body including a cavity; a lower main body with at least one flow exhaust passage forming a primary flow path through the two-stage valve; a pre-stressed diaphragm sandwiched between the upper and lower main bodies, and pressure control capability for controlling the pressure in the cavity. A secondary flow path exists from the pressurized gas supply through the lower main body, through the upper main body, and terminating in the cavity in the upper main body. A first valve is installed in the secondary flow path to open and close the flow of gas from the pressurized gas supply to the cavity. A second valve installed in an exhaust passage in the upper main body allows the pressure in the cavity to exhaust to the environment. When the second valve is closed, the pressure in the cavity in the upper main body can be increased to lower the pre-stressed diaphragm. Raising and lowering of the pressure in the cavity causes the pre-stressed diaphragm to open and close the flow of gas from the pressurized gas supply through the primary flow path of the two-stage valve. The design of the two-stage valve and its components lends itself to constructing the two-stage valve as a microvalve using Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) concepts.

摘要： A gas cooled dynamoelectric machine is provided that includes a rotor having a body portion, axially extending coils, endwindings, and a plurality of spaceblocks disposed between the endwindings, so that a plurality of cavities are defined between mutually adjacent endwindings and spaceblocks. To increase endwinding cooling, at least one of the spaceblocks has a passage extending between first and second adjacent cavities to provide for cooling flow communication between the first and second cavities through the spaceblock. A flow deflector is preferably provided adjacent a radially inner end of one, the other, or both of the cavity facing surfaces of the spaceblock for directing flow into or out of the first and second cavities, respectively.
