The maintenance device is constructed for traveling to a respective spindle assembly station, removing an adapter device with substantially empty yarn supply packages from the respective spindle assembly and positioning such adapter device on the conveyor mechanism, and synchronously removing an adapter device with full yarn supply packages from the conveyor mechanism and positioning such adapter device in the respective spindle assembly.

    • A bobbin transfer apparatus simultaneously transfers consecutive individual adapters having at least one fully wound bobbin of yarn thereon and consecutive individual adapters having at least one substantially empty bobbin of yarn thereon between a yarn bobbin winding machine adjacent the transfer apparatus and a bobbin suspension transporting mechanism positioned over the transfer apparatus for consecutively moving full bobbins from the transfer apparatus to a yarn processing machine and returning substantially empty bobbins therefrom to the transfer apparatus. The transfer apparatus includes a conveying device for consecutively conveying the individual adapters in a generally vertical position through a closed path of travel. The transfer apparatus also includes three work stations positioned in the path of travel of the conveying device and in which devices are provided in the first work station for moving upwardly to carry an adapter with a full bobbin thereon from the transfer apparatus to the transporting mechanism and to receive an adapter with a substantially empty bobbin thereon from the transporting mechanism and carry the same to the transfer apparatus. The second and third work stations provide devices for, preferably simultaneously, consecutively removing the empty bobbins from the adapters and mounting fully wound bobbins from the winding machine on the empty adapters for return to the first work station to be conveyed to the transporting apparatus.

    • An apparatus for braking and positioning a spinning or twisting spindle with the spindle rotor in a specified position, having a spindle brake which engages with a rotary part, preferably a wharve, of the spindle, and, separate from said brake, positioning means comprising an additional braking surface which extends over part of the periphery of a rotary part, preferably a wharve, of said spindle and up to which an additional brake member is movable. The apparatus provides a more simply constructed braking and positioning means where it is permissible for the spindle to be stopped within a certain angular range about a prescribed central position. In the illustrated embodiment, a spindle brake proper comprises shoe means 7 engageable with an inside periphery of a skirt 5 of wharve 4, and there is provided positioning means comprising an additional braking surface 9 which preferably extends over an angle from 15.degree. to 30.degree. and which is engageable by an additional brake shoe 12. Movement of a toggle device 14, 15 downwards to a substantially straight position applied the spindle brake proper to stop the spindle rotor, and also causes, through fluid operated means, inward movement of shoe 12. Further movement of the toggle device 14, 15 to a downwardly-angled position releases the spindle brake proper, and the spindle rotor is held in a required position when surface 9 is opposite the inwardly-moved shoe 12.

    • A textile yarn processing machine, such as a two-for-one twister or the like, having respective yarn processing stations is provided with an improved yarn monitoring system for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station in response to the absence of a yarn running therethrough, as for example, upon the occurrence of a yarn breakage. The improved yarn monitoring system of the present invention is constructed generally as follows: A yarn sensor is constructed and mounted so as to be held in an operative setting by yarn tension when the yarn is running in normal operating condition and to be released in the event of the release of such tension, as upon a yarn breakage. A switching mechanism is provided for stopping the operation of the yarn processing station, and means is provided for operably connecting the yarn sensor to the switching mechanism for actuating the switching mechanism upon the release of the yarn sensor from its operative setting. These devices cooperate with a time delay means which is actuable upon restarting the yarn processing station for permitting a further actuation of the switching mechanism only after a predetermined period of time has elapsed to thus allow the yarn processing station to resume a normal, stabilized operating condition and to thereby avoid inadvertent and undesirable actuation of the switching mechanism prior to the yarn processing station reaching such a stabilized operating condition.
