    • The present invention discloses a bumper absorber that is provided on an automobile between a bumper reinforcement and a bumper fascia, comprising a first energy absorbing portion formed by foaming a resin molded material; the first energy absorbing portion extending from the bumper reinforcement toward the bumper fascia; a second energy absorbing portion formed by a resin molded material; the second energy absorbing portion extending from the bumper reinforcement toward the bumper fascia at a position where a space that permits buckling is formed between the first energy absorbing portion and the second energy absorbing portion on the bumper reinforcement side; a crosslinking portion disposed facing a vehicle interior side of the bumper fascia; and the crosslinking portion fastening the first energy absorbing portion and the second energy absorbing portion together while sealing an opening between the first energy absorbing portion and the second energy absorbing portion on the bumper fascia side.

    • Disclosed herein is a method of producing foamed particles of an ethylene-based resin, which have a high expansion ratio and are free from the formation of fine cells, by dispersing particles of the uncrosslinked ethylene-based resin, which are obtained using, as a base resin, an ethylene/.alpha.-olefin copolymer containing, as a comonomer component, 1.0-10 wt. % of an .alpha.-olefin having 4-10 carbon atoms, in a dispersion medium in the presence of a foaming agent in a closed vessel, heating the resultant dispersion to impregnate the resin particles with the foaming agent, and then releasing the resin particles into a region of a pressure lower than the internal pressure of the vessel at a foaming temperature not lower than the softening temperature of the resin particles, thereby expanding the resin particles. An aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or an alicyclic hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide are used in admixture as the foaming agent in amounts satisfying the following equations (1) and (2) at the same time:E/7+0.3.ltoreq.3x+2y.ltoreq.E/7+5.4 (1)5.4.times.10.sup.-3 .ltoreq.x/(yE) (2)in which:x: the number of mols of the aliphatic hydrocarbon and/or the alicyclic hydrocarbon per 1000 g of the resin particles;y: the number of mols of carbon dioxide per 1000 g of the resin particles; andE: an intended bulk expansion ratio for the foamed particles,with the proviso that x and y are greater than 0.

    • A filling apparatus for filling foamed particles of a thermoplastic resin into a mold. The apparatus includes a weigh hopper equipped with a weighing means, a foamed particle feeder adapted to control the amount of the foamed particles of the thermoplastic resin to be fed to the weigh hopper according to the weight of the foamed particles contained in the weigh hopper, a particle feed hopper adapted to temporarily keep a fixed weight of the foamed particles, which have been weighed in the weigh hopper, a holding hopper which acts as a pressurized tank, and a filling machine for filling the foamed particles into a mold. The filling apparatus allows for the successive weighing and pressurized containment of the foamed particles prior to being fed into the mold cavities.
