摘要： Apparatus for providing a feed of irregularly sized and shaped objects in a spaced arrangement has a sloping slide with longitudinal corrugations for accelerating the objects and guiding them into alignment in the corrugations. The slide discharges the rows of objects onto an accelerating belt which is moving at a speed which is greater than the speed of the objects discharged onto its surface, and a pinch roller of resilient material mounted above the accelerating belt, and moving at the same speed as the accelerating belt, presses the objects against the surface of the accelerating belt. The objects are discharged from the accelerating belt in a spaced and substantially stable arrangement.

摘要： Apparatus for sorting objects from a stream of objects moving through a sorting zone in accordance with light reflected from the objects, has a light source to direct light into the sorting zone across the width of the stream and a single line array of photodiodes each having a photosensitive semiconductor junction adapted for operation in a photon flux storage mode. An electronic switch arrangement which scans the photodiodes by connecting the output of each photodiode singly in and in succession through the array to a common output. The signal at the common output represents a succession of values of summed or integrated reflected light which impinged on each photodiode during a predetermined interval. The predetermined interval being the time period between a particular photodiode being connected to the common output on successive switching scans or sweeps. A plurality of deflection devices, such as air nozzles, is in the sorting zone downstream of the photodiodes and extending across the width of the path in side by side relationship so that each deflection device defines a channel. Timing means is provided to (a) cycle the switching arrangement and (b) provide a timing signal relating the signal at the common output to respective channnels. A control circuit is connected to receive the timing signals and the signal at the common output to actuate the deflection devices to deflect objects which reflected light of predetermined characteristics.

摘要： In the machine sorting of objects which have a material with magnetic properties, an auxiliary magnetic field is provided in the sorting zone to enhance a magnetic characteristic of the material with magnetic properties. In one embodiment the objects are passed through a strong, steady magnetic field just prior to passing a magnetic field detector. The magnetic field detector provides a sorting signal related to remanence of the objects, and the objects are deflected or not in accordance with the sorting signal.

摘要： A memory system for storing positional information of objects moving through a zone. The zone has a number of imaginary channels, and the system provides a number of modules which are fewer in number than the number of imaginary channels. A scanning device makes repeated scans across the zone and each module stores information on one particular object being traversed by the scan. A storage register is provided for each channel and a module actuates one or more storage registers according to the lateral position and extent of an object, to store a signal representing longitudinal extent of an object. The storage registers advance at a rate related to the rate of movement of the objects.
