    • A decoking tool includes a valve body equipped with a pressurized fluid inlet and having a plurality of fluid passages, including drilling fluid passages extending substantially the full length of the valve body to conduct fluid to drilling nozzle sockets, and cutting fluid passages extending approximately half as far as the drilling fluid passages to conduct fluid to cutting nozzle sockets, the drilling and cutting fluid passages being disposed alternatingly on a circular locus about an axial centerline of the valve body. There are nozzles installed in the nozzle sockets. A diverter plate is interposed between the valve body and the pressurized fluid inlet and has axial fluid passages disposed on a circular path congruent with the circular locus, the disposition of the axial fluid passages being such that the passages align either with the drilling fluid passages or with the cutting fluid passages of the valve body. Means are provided for rotating the diverter plate to selectively provide fluid communication to either the drilling fluid passages or the cutting fluid passages.

    • The improved flow control valve includes a hollow valve body having an inlet and an outlet and a valve member movable therein to control the flow through the valve. The valve also includes an orifice assembly located in the valve body encircling the valve member. The orifice assembly includes a perforated cylindrical member encircling the valve member and a plurality of annular discs encircling the cylindrical member. The discs include both orifice discs and spacer discs. The orifice discs are located between the spacer discs and each orifice disc is provided with a plurality of orifices. Each spacer disc is provided with a plurality of flow ports that are arranged to aligned serially with the orifices which provide a long curvilinear or spiral flow path through the orifice assembly.

    • The apparatus described herein is for use in a valve including a hollow valve body having inlet and outlet passageways extending into the body and a valve member positioned in the body for movement between open and closed positions. A plurality of orifice members are disposed between the inlet and outlet so that fluid flowing through the valve must pass therethrough. The orifice members are arranged to restrict fluid flow and thus reduce the pressure as the fluid flows through the valve. The orifice members are also arranged so that the inlet to each series of members is through an annular space that is narrower than the smallest of the orifices so that any particle passing through the annular space will pass through the valve. Each inlet is provided with a cleaning member that projects therein and the orifice members are rotatable in the valve body so that the cleaning members pass through each inlet.

    • The improved flushing and cooling system of this invention includes a pumping ring seal located at each end of the pump with the seal located adjacent to the discharge being in fluid communication with a pressure-reducing device in the pump. The pressure-reducing device is also connected by means of a bypass conduit with the seal located adjacent the pump inlet and with the pump inlet itself. A flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pressure-reducing device and is arranged to control flow from the by-pass conduit into and out of the pumping ring seal that is located adjacent the pump discharge. A second flow control orifice member is located adjacent the pump inlet and functions to control the flow into and out of the seal located adjacent the pump inlet. The arrangement of the system is such that the fluid passing through the pump is utilized to cool and flush both of the seals and to maintain the seals at substantially the same pressure.
