    • A workpiece is supported by work support means (40; 40'; 40"; 44'; 142, 144) for movement in a first direction by co-operating workpiece clamping and feeding means (46; 142, 144), both said means being supported on a carriage (16) for movement in a second direction normal to the first to move a workpiece relative to a sewing machine head. Both of said means are arranged on both sides of an elongated aperture (42) extending in the second direction in alignment with a needle penetration point (N). Stepping motors (24; 60) are provided for moving the carriage (16) and operating the workpiece clamping and feeding means (46; 142, 144) under programmed control. A camera (70) is also provided aligned with the aperture 42, for detecting the peripheral outline of a workpiece fed therebeneath. Computer means is effective, in response to the detected outline, to identify the workpiece type and its orientation and location on the workpiece support means and accesses an appropriate stitch pattern data file and modifies the data to take account of the workpiece orientation and location. The workpiece is then sewn according to the thus modified data.

    • A folding container construction has a wooden reinforcing framework which is attached to the side (74, 75) and end walls (98, 99) of the box. The side walls (74, 75) of the box are provided with vertical struts (82, 84, 86) disposed at the peripheral edges of the walls and a single, horizontal brace (79, 80) disposed adjacent to the top of the wall. At least one horizontal reinforcing member (104, 105) is provided on each end wall of the box with the horizontal members being received by slots defined by the struts on the side walls and the horizontal brace to maintain the box configuration. The end walls (98, 99) are maintained on the base (60) of the container by the bottom surfaces of the vertical struts which seat against a bottom flap (92, 93) on the end walls when the box is constructed. In this way, the need for separately attaching the end walls to the container base is eliminated. In one embodiment of the invention, a score line (76, 77) may be provided on one side wall to allow for folding of the wall outwardly to facilitate loading of the container.

    • Two workpiece portions (30, 32) that are to be stitched together along a stitching path (28) each have a stitching region (24, 26) which corresponds to the stitching path (28), but which is so shaped that the regions do not overlap when the workpieces (30, 32) are in a substantially flat condition. Thus some three-dimensional shaping is imparted to the portions during stitching. Each of the workpiece portions (30, 32) is clamped between two rollers (10, 12, 24) one of which is driven and the other freely rotatable, the driven rollers (10, 12) serving to distort the stitching regions into a desired overlapping position progressively in preparation for each successive stitching operation. The rollers are also bodily movable to advance the workpiece portions (30, 32) step-by-step through the operating locality (4) of the sewing machine. For sensing when the stitching regions are in the desired overlapping relationship suitable edge sensing means (40, 42, 44) is provided.

    • A disinfecting and sanitizing article is adapted for use on objects to be disinfected and sanitized, including skin and hands and nonporous hard surfaces. The article is formed from a porous substrate formed from an absorbent fibrous matrix. A disinfecting and sanitizing agent is formed as a liquid composition that is absorbed into the substrate. The composition is formulated from an organic solvent present in a concentration of about 10 percent to 40 percent by weight, a surfactant present in a concentration of about 0.5 percent to 20 percent by weight, one or more pathogen killing agents present in a concentration of about 0.255 percent to 10.5 percent by weight, an emollient present in a concentration of about 0.05 percent to 3.0 percent by weight, and water present in a concentration of about 50.0 percent to 89.9 percent by weight. Application of the article provides an abrasive disinfecting and sanitizing action by a scrubbing action on the surface of the object to disinfected and sanitized.
