摘要： This invention pertains to a product and a method for preparing same. The product is an electrically conducting metallized fibers and a non-conducting composite containing the metallized fibers. In a preferred embodiment, the product is a composite of metallized cellulose fibers disposed in an electrically non-conducting matrix. The method includes the steps of hydrating cellulose fibers to prevent absorption of chemical reagents; activating the cellulose surface of the fibers for metal deposition; removing from the fibers excess activator and reagents used in the activation; drying the fibers to a free-flowing condition whereby the fibers acquire the color of the activator by virtue of its deposition on the fibers; metallizing the fibers to deposit thereon a metal capable of absorbing electromagnetic radiation; drying the metallized fibers whereby they are free-flowing; and forming a composite composed of an electrically non-conductive matrix having dispersed therein the matallized fibers.

摘要： A coating composite is provided for a platform surface of an antenna array for, when applied to the platform, affording isolation of radiating and receiving antennas of the array. The coating composite includes a plurality of conductively coated elongate tubes dispersed in an insulating polymer matrix at a volume loading density approaching that at which the composite begins to conduct electrically over macroscopic distances, i.e., close to the percolation threshold. The tubes are preferably comprised of microtubules comprised of biologically-derived, high-aspect rod-shaped particles of microscopic dimensions having an electroless plated metal coating thereon.

摘要： Lipid microtubules having a controlled bilayer structure and high aspect io are formed in a methanol/ethanol/water solvent system. The lipid microtubules may then be catalyzed (e.g., with a palladium/tin catalyst) in an acidified catalytic bath having no more than about 30 g of catalytic salts. These catalyzed microtubules are then metallized using a diluted plating bath with replenishment of the plating bath as needed to obtain the desired metallization thickness.
