    • A marine vessel propulsion system includes a plurality of propulsion devices, each including a motor and a propeller rotated by the motor. The system further includes a common electric power supply switch arranged to be operated by an operator to turn on and off electric power supplies of the plurality of propulsion devices all at once, an electric power supply control unit arranged to put the electric power supplies of the respective propulsion devices in an on state all at once when the common electric power supply switch is turned on and to put the electric power supplies of the respective propulsion devices in an off state all at once when the common electric power supply switch is turned off, an abnormal state detection unit arranged to detect an abnormal state of each propulsion device, and a power transmission cutoff unit, which is arranged to, when an abnormal state of any of the propulsion devices is detected by the abnormal state detection unit, cut off transmission of power between the motor and the propeller of the propulsion device for which the abnormal state is detected.

    • An outboard motor of a watercraft can include a shifting mechanism for performing gear shifting among forward, neutral, and reverse positions. A shift actuator can be configured to drive the shifting mechanism. A shift position sensor can be configured to detect a position of the shift actuator with respect to the forward, neutral, and reverse positions. A controller can be configured to control the shift actuator in accordance with a signal provided from the shift position sensor. A start-regulation circuit can have a plurality of semiconductor devices configured to deactivate a starting motor of the engine when a starting switch of the engine is turned on in a state where a position other than neutral is detected by the shift position sensor.

    • A remote control device for controlling a propulsion unit of a boat is provided. The remote control device comprises a main body having a shift lever. A housing board is coupled to the main body of the remote control device and extends in a downward direction. The housing board houses a remote control engine control unit that provides an operation output signal to the propulsion unit based on an operation input signal received from the shift lever. In one embodiment, an operator can access the remote control engine control unit from either a starboard side or a port side of the boat. The remote control device can include an additional housing board that is capable of being attached to and detached from the housing board that is coupled to the main body.
