    • Methods for registering individuals with government programs to eliminate fraud are described herein. The method includes registering a first person with a government entity having a governmental program and issuing an individual identification code (IIC) to the first person, entering the individual identification code (IIC) into an electronic retrieval system and obtaining first data on the first person at a first point in time. The first data can include first biometric data, a first personal identification code, a first electronic signature, and combinations thereof. The method further includes linking the first data to the individual identification code (IIC), and reading second data at a second point in time, wherein the second data can include second biometric data, a second personal identification code, a second electronic signature and combinations thereof, of a second person, and wherein the second point of time is later than the first point of time. The method further includes comparing the second data with the first data to form compared data, determining from the compared data whether the second person is the first person to obtain a verified identity, and making a first transmission of the verified identity to the government entity. The first transmission includes the individual identification code (IIC) and a first query for personal information on the first person. The method further includes making a second transmission from the government entity providing the information requested in the first query and making a third transmission providing updated personal information to the government entity.

Such needle cartridges may include a radioactive shielding material which contains a portion of the radioactivity emitted by the radioactive material. The container of the present invention has an upper portion and a lower portion, and at least one of the portions includes a radiation shielding material, such as lead, steel or other appropriate shielding materials. Needle cartridges containing radioactive material are placed within the container for storage and shipping. The container secures the needle cartridges against lateral movement within the container to protect them from breakage or release of the radioactive materials contained in the needle cartridges. The radiation shielding material of the lower portion of the container may cooperate with the radiation shielding material of the device to container more of the emitted radiation that is contained by the device alone. The container and the holder may be sterilizable to allow such devices to be transported in sterilized form for medical use.

    • Brachytherapy devices are provided for delivering a substantially uniform dose rate of radiation to a treatment area at a predetermined treatment depth. The devices include a holder defining a cavity, and a radioactive material located within the cavity. The holder comprises radiation-shielding material therein. The holder and the radioactive material are positioned to cooperatively provide a substantially uniform dose rate of radiation to a treatment area at a predetermined treatment depth. Also disclosed are methods for treating macular degeneration or ocular melanoma. The methods involve positioning a brachytherapy device in contact with or in close proximity to tissue located in a treatment area and exposing the tissue located in the treatment area to a therapeutic dose of radiation, which is delivered at a substantially uniform dose rate over the treatment area at a predetermined treatment depth. The devices and methods of the invention also ensure that the radiation delivered outside the treatment area is substantially reduced relative to the radiation delivered within the treatment area to minimize exposure of healthy tissue to radiation. The provision of a substantially uniform dose rate in the treatment area prevents substantial over- and under-exposure to radiation of different portions of the tissue in the treatment area.

A container is provided which has a first container portion and a second container portion. One portion of the container is provided with a grip that is graspable by a user's hand and a holder for holding the device using that same portion of the container to permit that portion of the container to be gripped and used to transfer the device from the container to another location without having to directly contact the device. The portion of the container used for transferring the device serves as a barrier between the device and the user to minimize contamination of the device by the user or to minimize contamination of the user by the device. Also described is a method for storage and deployment of a packaged device using the container of the invention.

    • A reinforced panel including a fiberglass reinforced plastic sheet and a framework having a plurality of interconnected beam members partially immersed within the plastic sheet. A plurality of woven straps soaked in plastic are pressed in perpendicular abutment with selected beam members with the ends of such straps being immersed within the plastic sheet. The plastic material, when completely solidified, bonds with the frame and the straps, thereby securing the frame to the sheet as a common structural unit. An alternative embodiment excludes the use of the straps and employs a cover bonded to the plastic sheet and the frame by plastics similar to that forming the plastic sheet.
