    • There is disclosed a process for removing volatile components in a polyarylene sulfide resin which is produced by subjecting a sulfur source and a dihalogenated aromatic compound to polymerization reaction in an aprotic organic solvent, comprising using an extruder which is equipped with front vent having an opening length in the range of 4D to 11D (D: screw diameter) and which has a distance between a terminal position of a screw in a kneading portion and the opening portion of the front vent being in the range of 4D to 15D. The process is capable of steadily and economically removing volatile components in the polyarylene sulfide resin without necessitating expensive machinery or equipment such as a dryer without plugging up the opening portion of a vent even in the case of degassing a PAS resin having a low molecular weight and further, thus enabling a long-term continuous stable running.

    • Provided are an aromatic vinyl polymer resin composition capable of being molded into resin foam sheets having good surface smoothness and glossiness well balanced with the mechanical strength thereof even when the expansion ratio in molding is increased, and resin foam sheets and containers of the composition. The resin composition comprises (A) from 80 to 98% by mass of an aromatic vinyl polymer resin having a weight-average molecular weight measured through GPC of from 200,000 to 400,000, a ratio of weight-average molecular weight to number-average molecular weight ranging from 2.2 to 3.6, a number of branches of from 0.1 to 1.0 in one molecule having an absolute molecular weight of 1,190,000 measured through GPC-MALLS, and a melt flow rate of from 1.5 to 3.5 g/10 min, and (B) from 2 to 20% by mass of a styrene-diene block copolymer or its hydrogenate. This is molded into a resin foam sheet through extrusion foaming, and the sheet is thermoformed into containers.

    • The catalyst for polymerizing vinyl compounds according to the present invention comprises (A) a complex of Group 4 to 10 transition metal of the Periodic Table, (B) a clay, clay mineral or ion-exchangeable layered compound, and (C) at least one aluminoxy compound represented by Formula (1): 1 wherein a plurality of R groups are each independently C1-10 hydrocarbon group and at least one of the R groups is a hydrocarbon group having 2 or more carbon atoms; and x is an integer of 2 or more. By using the Group 4 to 10 transition metal complex and the clay, clay mineral or ion-exchangeable layered compound in combination with the specific aluminoxy compound, vinyl polymers are produced at a high efficiency. Also, the catalyst for producing null-olefins according to the present invention comprises (Anull) a complex of Group 8 to 10 transition metal of the Periodic Table, (Bnull) an organic compound-modified clay, clay mineral or ion-exchangeable layered compound, and (Cnull) at least one aluminoxy compound represented by Formula (2): 2 wherein a plurality of R groups are each independently C1-10 hydrocarbon group and at least one of the R groups is a hydrocarbon group having 2 or more carbon atoms; and y is an integer of 2 to 4. Since the organic compound-modified clay, clay mineral or ion-exchangeable layered compound absorbs other catalyst components between layers thereof, the elution of the catalyst components into liquid phase is effectively prevented, thereby facilitating the separation of the catalyst from a reaction product.
