    • A forward structure of a motor vehicle has a cross member which connects the two A-columns with one another and which is used for fixing a steering column and a knee restraint. A strut is fixed on the forward structure and extends from the cross member to a transmission tunnel extending in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. At least two mutually overlapping strut sections of the strut have a connection area which, under a load during a crash and after overcoming a force threshold, can be elongated in a longitudinal direction while absorbing energy. A force limiting device is provided in the connection area of the strut sections in the force transmission path. Consequently, after the force threshold is exceeded, an energy reduction is achieved during a predetermined lengthening path of the connecting strut and at a constant force level so that a yielding of the impact-loaded knee restraint together with the cross member takes place with a force-limited resistance along a predetermined path distance.

    • Longitudinal adjusting arrangement on a casing tube telescope of a steering spindle in a motor vehicle comprises a spindle drive which has a threaded spindle extending in the longitudinal direction outside on the casing tube. The threaded spindle is supported on a first telescope section and, by means of its thread, engages in a spindle nut which is supported on a second telescope section arranged coaxially with respect to the first telescope section. In order to be able to reduce impact energy in this longitudinal adjusting arrangement in the case of a crash, at least one energy absorption element is fixed on at least one of the telescope sections, which energy absorption element, in the case of a movement, particularly an axial movement of the threaded spindle and/or of the spindle nut relative to the respective supporting telescope section, is acted upon by at least one of these parts of the spindle drive.

    • A steering system is provided for motor vehicles with a multiple-part steering column, in which a rigid steering column part in the vicinity of the steering wheel is guided in an outer tube and in which a plastically deformable second steering column part, for example in the form of a corrugated tube, is located between this first steering column part and the steering gear, and in which the outer tube is fastened to a cross support passing between the windshield pillars of the vehicle. In order to obtain a flatter attitude of the outer tube and thereby a lowering of the steering wheel in the case of a frontal collision, provision is made according to the invention for the outer tube to be additionally supported by means of at least one strut, or similar device, passing in the interior of the vehicle in front of the front bulkhead, on a cross support passing below the windshield.
