    • A sealing cover for a housing is provided with a hole for passage of a shaft which extends through the cover. The cover comprises a metal cover body; a dynamically acting seal for the shaft, the dynamically acting seal comprising at least one elastic sealing lip which is vulcanized to the body; a statically acting seal for sealing the cover flange face, the statically acting seal comprising elastic sealing strips projecting axially with respect to the direction of the shaft which are vulcanized to the body. The improvement in the cover includes the body composed of a profiled, drawn sheet-metal body having an essentially cup-shaped cross section and the body has first, second and third faces which are offset from one another in the axial direction of the shaft and extend radially with respect to the axial direction, the third face includes a way for connecting the body to the housing, the second face is between the first and the third faces and receives the sealing strips, and the sealing lip is vulcanized to the first face.

    • A valve stem sealing assembly includes a valve spring, a valve spring retainer, and a valve spring seal which is releasably connected either directly or indirectly to the valve spring retainer. Such a valve stem sealing assembly can be installed as a unit during mass production of engines. In one embodiment the valve spring retainer is provided with a sleeve which releasably supports the valve stem seal. Another embodiment includes a protection element on which the valve spring rests to keep it from digging into the metal of the engine. Both the protection element and the valve spring retainer are provided with sleeves in the second embodiment, and these sleeves are releasably connected. The valve stem seal is lodged in the sleeve of the protection element. In both embodiments the releasable connection, which may be provided by force-fitting one element into another, is released after installation of the assembly.

    • A shaft seal assembly adapted for installation on and concentrically with a rotary shaft for sealing off a chamber laden with a gas/liquid mixture from a space situated externally of the chamber. The assembly has a chamber side and an air side and further comprises a sealing lip circumferentially surrounding a stationary part of the assembly; a labyrinth sealing ring situated axially adjacent the sealing sleeve on the chamber side of the assembly. The labyrinth sealing ring comprises a rotary wall component and a stationary wall component together defining a labyrinth gap formed of a plurality of consecutive axial and radial passages for guiding the mixture in a path having a plurality of radial and axial deflections. The shaft seal assembly further has a liquid return device situated between the sealing lip and the labyrinth sealing ring as viewed along a path of propagation of the mixture in the assembly; and a radially oriented, operationally stationary return channel situated between the sealing lip and the labyrinth sealing ring for returning liquid from the assembly into the chamber in a radially outward direction.
