    • A device for depositing a cable into a receiving container or can, comprises, a rotary distributor including a rotatable cable distributing tube extending obliquely downwardly in the distributor which has an inlet into which the cable is directed adjacent the center of rotation and a cable discharge adjacent its bottom disposed at a location spaced radially outwardly of the cable inlet. The cable receiver has a side with a curved periphery which is located adjacent the tube in a position to receive cable which issues out of the outlet of the tube and engages around the surface of the receiver. The receiver is mounted for rotation relative to the distributor so that there is a driving rotation of one relative to the other to effect the deposit of the coils of the cable around the cable receiver. The receiver can is disposed below the receiver to push the coils of cable as they are deposited on the receiver downwardly along the surface of the receiver and then off of the surface into the can.

    • In the process, the strands, which are spun as a fused mass, are initially drawn, then preferably stretched, crimped or textured, and converted into helical windings. The helical windings are laid down on an endless conveyor formed by two conveyor belts laterally spaced from each other. The laid down helical winding turns are then cut between the two endless conveyors to produce two substantially identical fiber lengths from each helical winding turn. The melt spinning of the strands may be effected at such a high speed that the drawing of the filaments or fibers can be omitted. The helical winding turns, prior to cutting thereof, may be subjected to at least one after-treatment. The apparatus includes a rotary distributor into which the crimped strands are supplied substantially axially for conversion into helical winding turns, and includes endless belts tangentially engaging the helical winding turns to move the same downwardly onto the spaced pair of endless conveyor belts. The apparatus also includes clamping devices for clamping the lateral edges of the laid down helical winding turns prior to and during cutting thereof. The cutting devices are interchangeable, and may include two cutters arranged in series and alternately operative, cutter discs, or a revolving mount having several cutters projecting radially therefrom so that successive cutters may be brought into an operative position in succession.

    • Method of treating synthetic threads, particularly filament or foil threads comprises heating the threads up to the center of their cross-section, crimping the heated thread, forming the crimped threads into a wadding, heating and compressing the wadding to reduce its volume and thereafter cooling the compressed wadding. An apparatus for treating the yarn includes a continuous heating chamber which is arranged adjacent a cooling chamber. An apparatus is provided for feeding the yarn to be treated toward the heating chamber and for crimping the yarn preferably while it is heated and perhaps also stretched. Crimping may be carried on by directing the thread under a fluid force against a screen, by passing the thread between a pair of rollers which have crimping means or by a combination of the two and, in addition, stretching means may be provided to stretch the thread. The device is also provided to collect the yarn in wads as it is crimped and to force it through a narrowing path so as to compress it as it is being fed through a heating chamber. The compressed wadding is thereafter fed through a cooling chamber. Wadding is advantageously moved through the heating chamber around a drum and between a drum and an exterior belt which is maintained under tension and a similar means is employed for transporting it through a second drum arranged in the cooling chamber. The apparatus may also include an endless conveyor having projecting needles which are trained to run through an elongated continuous chamber defined between two spaced walls which narrow in order to compress the wadding and which extend from the heating portion to a cooling portion.
