    • An extrusion head for processing rubber or thermoplastic plastics material including a housing flange-mountable on a screw extrusion device. The head further including an inlet region for receiving material from the extrusion device and for receiving the downstream end of the screw, the inlet leading into a flow channel portion and a nozzle outlet which receives the material from the flow channel for extrusion in the form of a shaped profile. A sealable air discharge device is disposed in the flow channel portion to remove air bubbles, particularly that which is formed during the start up phase of the extrusion downstream of the downstream end of the screw.

    • A method particularly suitable of monitoring the production of elongate profiles which are formed from one or more mixtures of rubber or thermoplastic material in an extrusion head which is fed by one or more extrusion devices is disclosed as in an apparatus which is particularly suitable for carrying out such a method. During production, the strip passes through a cooling path or station in which longitudinal shrinkage thereof occurs. The desired shrinkge is known and the actual shrinkage is monitored by suitable means. These means are operatively connected to a regulating or control device. When leaving the head, the profile passes over a weighing device which determines the weight per unit length thereof. The weighing device is also operatively connected to the regulating or control device. If a deviation from the desired shrinkage in the zone or station is ascertained, the regulating device sets a new, corrected, desired weight per unit length value to be achieved at the weighing device. To achieve this desired weight per unit length, the drives for the extrusion devices are each adjusted by a uniform mount by the regulating or control device. By achieving the desired weight value, the desired amount of shrinkage in the cooling path or station is achieved.

    • An extrusion head is provided for extruding flat profiles for producing tread strip portions of vehicle tires from mixtures of rubber or plastics materials, which permits one of the constituents such as the tread strip mixture to be changed without adversely affecting the other constituent parts of the mixture, such as the lateral rubber strip mixtures and the base rubber layer. This is achieved by suitably deflecting the flow channels for the lateral rubber layers in a front template. The flow channel for the lateral strips enters the template below the flow channel for the tread strip but discharges alongside the lateral edges of the tread strip. The head comprises a fixed central portion and pivotable upper and lower portions, the flow channels for the constituents of the mixture being defined by channels formed in insert members located between the head portions. By so doing, the flow channels for the base layer and for the lateral strips can be formed in one of the insert members leaving only the flow channel for the tread strip to be formed in the other insert member. Since it is the tread strip mixture which is most frequently changed, this can now be effected without adversely affecting the other two mixtures.

    • The present invention relates to an apparatus for producing a controllable, uniform conveying pressure for processing highly viscous, temperature sensitive rubber or thermoplastics, consisting of two rotating conveying elements that form a toothlike sealing profile and are arranged on shafts in a housing. The root diameter of the conveying elements more or less corresponds to the diameter of the shaft sections that are axially adjacent to the conveying elements on either side and form bearing surface therefor. The radial faces of the conveying elements are thus avoided and so are the usually rather difficult sealing problems at these faces. By additionally providing either the shaft sections or the surrounding housing parts with return channels the channel volume of which decreases in the conveying direction, the axial sealing capacity of the gear pump is improved considerably.
