    • A heat exchanger having one or more cooling cores connected between an inlet manifold tank and an outlet manifold tank is provided with a resilient element for mounting the cooling cores to the manifold tanks and sealing the connection therebetween. The resilient mounting and sealing element is formed so as to have a strip portion with at least one opening formed therein to receive the tube of a cooling core and a raised lip portion around the strip portion to provide a damped soft mount. The resilient element also includes a grommet portion around the opening which deforms to provide a liquid or fluid-tight seal between the outside of cooling core tubes and the inside of the manifold tank bores which are adapted to receive the tubes.

    • A lubrication pump comprises a housing having a cup-shaped member reciprocally mounted thereon, a rod secured to the member and disposed internally thereof, a piston slidably mounted on the rod to define an expansible working chamber between the piston and the housing, a first check valve for communicating lubricating fluid into the chamber upon upward movement of the piston and a second check valve for communicating pressurized lubricating fluid exteriorly of the pump upon downward movement of the piston. A first coil spring is preferably mounted between the piston and member whereas a second coil spring is preferably mounted between the base of the housing and the piston.

    • It is desirable to provide a relatively coarse finish at one end of an inner cylindrical wall of a cylinder or a cylinder liner and a relatively finer finish towards another end of said inner cylinder wall. A honing member is provided for rotation and oscillation in contact with the inner cylinder walls. A first section of the honing member has a relatively coarse grit surface and a second section of the honing member has a relatively fine grit surface. The abovementioned oscillation and rotation of such a honing member comprises an improved method for honing a cylindrical wall.

    • An improved thrust bearing particularly suited for use in applications wherein the bearing is subjected to cocking loads in addition to thrust loads. The bearing includes first and second relatively rotatable members with one of the members including a thrust collar. The other of the members includes a groove receiving the thrust collar and a bearing surface is interposed between the thrust collar and the groove. The groove, collar and bearing surface are constructed and arranged such that a clearance between the parts may vary in the radial direction to promote the maintenance of an oil film of uniform thickness when wobbling or cocking loads are applied.

    • Prior art roller followers have generally been relatively expensive to produce and provisions have had to be made to deliver pressurized lubricant to bushings which have been used as bearings for the roller. Such roller followers have also been made with partially open apertures for bearings, thus eliminating the need for pressurized lubrication, but in such roller followers there is a tendency for the rollers to fall out of the open apertures. These probelms are solved herein by forming the body (16) and bearing surfaces (26,28) of a roller follower (10) in two parts, an inner structure (20) which supports the bearing surfaces (26,28) and an outer structure (18) which surrounds the inner structure (20) and fastens the entire assembly (10) together. Preferably, the inner structure (20) comprises a pair of half tubular shells (22,24) which fit together and include flanges (40,41) for keeping the roller (12) in contact with the bearing surfaces (26,28). The principal use of such a roller follower (10) is in engines wherein the roller (12 ) contacts a camshaft and an end (44) of the roller follower removed from the roller (12) motivates a push rod against the force of a spring, thus causing the rod to reciprocate.
