    • A term-by-document (or part-by-collection) matrix can be used to index documents (or collections) for information retrieval applications. Reducing the rank of the indexing matrix can further reduce the complexity of information retrieval. A method for index matrix rank reduction can involve computing a singular value decomposition and then retaining singular values based on the singular values corresponding to singular values of multiple topics. The expected singular values corresponding to a topic can be determined using the roots of a specially formed characteristic polynomial. The coefficients of the special characteristic polynomial can be based on computing the determinants of a Gram matrix of term (or part) probabilities, a method of recursion, or a method of recursion further weighted by the probability of document (or collection) lengths.

    • A distributed diagnostic imaging system and method includes a data processor coupled to a variety of diagnostic imaging components through a network. The diagnostic imaging components include acquisition devices that are used to obtain diagnostic imaging signals, displays on which obtained images can be viewed, and control units that are used with either acquisition units or displays to control the manner in which an image is obtained or displayed.     • An ultrasound imaging system includes a video processor receiving coherent echo signals from a beamformer. The video processor converts the coherent echo signals to image data, which are applied to a streaming digital video processor. The system also includes an ECG monitor and processor that obtains an ECG signal and uses the signal to provide heart cycle data indicative of the beginning and end of each of the plurality of heart cycles. The streaming digital video processor converts the image data into streaming digital data, which are divided into the heart cycle sections as indicated by the heart cycle data. The system also includes a digital video disk recorder that records a digital video disk containing the digital video data divided into chapters containing respective heart cycle sections. The recorder may also record chapters of ECG data derived from the ECG signal along with the digital video data.
