    • A plasma furnace comprising a chamber having inlet nozzles for a gas to be ionized, a reaction chamber defined by a large number of non-magnetic cooled metallic conduits placed side by side and electrically insulated from each other, a tube for feeding materials to be treated inside the reaction chamber, and an inductor fed by an alternating current surrounding the reaction chamber. The plasma furnace is characterized in that the metallic conduits are secured on the inside surface of a tube made of insulating material protecting the inductor, and in that at least one out of two metallic conduits defining the reaction chamber comprises at least one concave portion into which is inserted one convex portion of an adjacent metallic conduit in such a manner that the insulating tube protecting the inductor is not seen from any location inside the reaction chamber, but that the metallic conduits are separated from each other by a space preventing any contact of the metallic conduits with each other.

    • There is disclosed a frequency multiplying device for induction heating applications in which the supply voltage is applied between two central taps of a heating inductor and a saturable reactor. The extremities of the saturable reactor are connected to those of a resonant circuit constituted by the heating inductor and a condenser in parallel therewith, through impedances such that the currents at supply frequency traversing them are of equal value and of symmetrical phases with respect to the phase of the supply voltage, the angle of each such phase being equal to 90* divided by the selected frequency multiplier and multiplied by an odd integer, so that these currents are in phase operation and their sum is nil.

    • An apparatus for the induction heating of metal sheets. The apparatus comprises generally an alternating current generator, an inductor connected to the generator, and a guideway for the metal sheets to be heated passing through the inductor in a direction such that the lines of force of the magnetic field are parallel to the guideway and to themselves inside the guideway. The inductor is made in the form of a curved loop having two arms and surrounding the guideway. The loop consists of at least one main portion in which the area located between the two arms is crossed by the guideway and at least two secondary portions which are parallel to the lateral edges of the guideway and run along such lateral edges at a predetermined distance therefrom. The process for carrying out the heating of the metal sheets consists in passing the sheets inside the guideway through the inductor.

The apparatus comprises a support for supporting the trough containing the product to be refined and the heating equipment, small rails secured to such support and supporting the trough, elastic means mounted on the support for tensioning the rails in the longitudinal direction, a guide secured to the support and supporting a mobile carriage, an inductor comprising at least one induction coil secured to the carriage and surrounding the trough, and an alternating current generator of intermediate frequency connected to the coil of the inductor.

    • The specification discloses an apparatus for removing slag from a bath of molten metal. It has a casing provided with a gripping device at one end to allow it to be connected to the hook of a travelling crane. Two cooperating metal slag removing scoops are pivotally mounted at the other end of the casing and a mechanism is connected to the scoops to cause their pivoting action when it is moved axially of the casing. The mechanism is actuated by a pneumatic jack housed in the casing and having connections to a source of pneumatic fluid. The scoop operating mechanism is connected to the operating rod of the pneumatic jack so that actuation of the operating rod causes pivoting of the scoops for slag removal. Preferably, the apparatus includes a rigid structure at the other end of the casing, the scoops being pivotally mounted on the said structure. The latter is preferably further provided with a shield intended to protect the casing and the jack from the heat of the bath of molten metal. Also, the bottom of the casing is filled with heat insulating material.
