    • A composition includes water; at least one hydrophilic polymer containing at least two groups which are independently the same or different a primary amine group or a secondary amine group and at least one saccharide containing a reducible function as described above. The hydrophilic polymer and the saccharide are mixed to form a reaction mixture and reacted to increase the viscosity of the reaction mixture. The reaction is then substantially terminated by reducing the pH of the composition. A method of increasing the strength of a cellulosic pulp product includes the steps of: contacting wet cellulosic pulp with a composition comprising (i) at least one hydrophilic polymer containing at least two groups which are independently the same or different a primary amine group or a secondary amine group and at least one saccharide containing a reducible function, the hydrophilic polymer and the saccharide of the composition having been reacted in a crosslinking reaction prior to contacting the composition with the cellulosic pulp product to increase the viscosity the composition; and, after contacting the cellulosic pulp with the composition, causing the crosslinking reaction between the hydrophilic polymer and the saccharide of the composition to proceed further.

    • In a method of producing a sheet of paper and/or cardboard and similar products, prior to the formation of the sheet from a fibrous suspension, at least two dry strength agents are added to the suspension either separately in any order or mixed together and at one or more injection points, namely: a first agent corresponding to a product for Hofmann degradation in solution on a base (co)polymer comprising at least one non-ionic monomer which is selected from the group containing acrylamide and/or methacrylamide, N,N dimethylacrlamide and/or acrylonitrile; and a second agent corresponding to a (co)polymer having an anionic charge density greater than 0.1 meq/g. The Hofmann degradation product comprises an organic polymer produced at a concentration greater than 3.5% by weight, and preferably greater than 4.5% and the first and second agents are each introduced into the pulp suspension at a concentration of between 0.01 and 2% by weight of active polymer material in relation to the dry weight of the pulp suspension.

    • A pulp making process in which fibrous cellulosic material is pulped to form an aqueous suspension of cellulosic material, the suspension is drained through a screen to form a pulp sheet and that the pulp sheet is dried to form a dry market pulp, in which a water soluble cationic polymer is added to the suspension as the sole drainage aid wherein the water-soluble cationic polymer is either, i) a copolymer comprising (a) between 1 and 70 mole % (meth) acrylamide and (b) between 30 and 99 mole % (meth) acryloyloxyethyl-trimethyl ammonium chloride with an intrinsic viscosity between 5 and 9 dl/g; or ii) a hydrolysed homopolymer of vinylformamide comprising between 1 and 100 mole % vinyl amine units and having a K value of between 45 and 240. The process of the invention provides improved drainage time and solids content of the dewatered pulp.
